The Cooks are great for kiting and it's growing in popularity with plenty of the locals joining in the fun.

The easiest accessible spot is the lagoon in the South East of main Island Rarotonga. In winter winds are predominantly East / South East

It can be a bit tricky to launch with high tide but with waist deep water 200 meters out it is easy to launch of the water.

There's a few Islands in the lagoon and you do not want to get stuck behind them.

Ano

the

r good site is Aitutaki with more consistent and stronger winds than the main Island. You'll need to take a connecting flight from Rarotonga.

Muri is great........and you're right about Aitutaki....its far better, quieter, bigger than the 'main' island of Raro.......

Aitutaki has the greatest sandbars and beautiful clear, flat water ...if the wind is on its heaven!

Some of the sailing destinations & info on www.kiteboardaitutaki.com..

went with them last year, they had a boat organised to the motu...its essential and they have another trip in August with some space....

Cop this!

Gonna be a busy August....lots of folks going from NZ

No waves apart from wind generated chop inside the lagoon....the reef passes are either too bony or the main town shipping channel in an offshore!

Never seen anyone outside the reef...in an easterly the next stop is Samoa!

Key to the place is a boat to the motu/sandbars......

We bounce around a bit last year was Coco's year before was Tonga - why go just to one place when the ocean is your oyster?

I think we're around Aitutaki from the 17-28 - happy to share boat fees with people there.

For any one that hasn't seen this - www.southpacifickiteboarding.com it's gone up in the last 2 or 3 month. Haven't had a good read of it but looks interesting

I think you'll find the season to go to the south pacific islands is Australia's winter months June (earliest) - October (latest) when the trade winds are blowing in earnest.

Raro is 30 kms around, two buses only - clockwise and anti clockwise. Best to hire a scooter, process being hire it, drive it to police station for test, pay $10 for month long Cook Island licence, then you are legal........
Only ever kited Muri lagoon, going again in November and to Aitutaki also this time. Great place
