Dunnos has beaches that will work in pretty much any wind direction. Gets pretty strong down there, normally more guys in the harbour than the surf beaches. Take a 5mm wetsuit, gloves, booties etc...it is f$&ken cold down there!

Most of us kite in the harbor most of the time, from the watercooled launch site, in E winds.

There are other places where you can go, but watercooled is the windiest part of the area.

Any winds with ne in them are the best. nw through to the south can be quite gusty.

Matix,

I'm an old Dunedin boy, just been away few years now, surfed all my life untill I moved to Brisbane, surfing here is a myth so started kiting.

so I know the harbour well and my oldies tell me each week that people are kiting there amongst the pole dancers, is there a local crew to hook up with for a session?

What about Warrington beach and the logan in behind? (doctors ppint)and TireiaMouth (sorry about the spelling) river bar behind the island?

Will be in town for a couple or weeks over the xmas break.

What about kiting in the lakes up central way? Cromwell is windy and its got a new lake too hey.

Might see you at watercooled sports soon.

Cheers

over christmas there will be people out... probably me as well. :)

Doc Point works really well and the freestyle guys love it as the water gets quite flat when the tide is going out. when the tide is coming in however its nearly impossible to keep up wind. NE works best there is like 20knots.

Blueskin bay, is well too sheltered from the hills. Might get good wind there once over a month, from the east if lucky.

In the south to south/west winds you can head to middles beach at st kilda, for some surf action. and harwood works in nearly all winds. :)

Glenorchy, Wanaka (dublin bay) and Hawea are all good in nw winds. can be quite strong tho. last new years i was getting 35 knots in the camping ground at wanaka.

hope to see you around :)
