I went to the Coral coast about 3 months ago. It is called the coral coast for a very good reason. Ripped the bum out of a brand spanking 666 board. THe water is so clear it is hard to judge the depth of the coral and don't jump. Also take crocs tucked down your rashie for if you crash as realuch gets nasty in two foot of coral water as my feet will testify.

Pack your kite into your suitcase and then take it out when you get there, and your board is usually fine as long as it isn't jetstar.
Just put it in a bag and it should be fine.

I had either 5 knots or 50 knots while there and a kite nazi at the resort.. .sir, put that thing down it is very dangerous over the megaphone from 400m away!!! this is from a resort that shows kiting at the resort in its in-house advertising on the TV. mmmmm...

Still got a few decent kites in tho in nice warm water, but did a bit of wakeboarding due to lack of wind.

go to namotu if you can afford it, its a tiny private island set up for surfing and kiting; its surrounded by reef so great wave riding no matter what the wind direction. i think there is a website, but not sure what it is.

Echostorm,

Check out www.kitebeaches.com and conduct a search on Oceania and follow your nose from there to locate info on Fiji. There are about half a dozen beaches listed with a couple of photos of each and a description of conditions etc. I am heading to the Coral Coast myself in August which is apparently up there with the best time of the year to go as the Trade Winds are well in. I can't remember the site but I think I found the Fiji bureau of met and searched on their statistics. Avg. 18-20 knots each day from memory.

when we were there last year every time the Fiji BOM site said 15-20kts SE we had been getting 20-25kts, a couple of times we got about 15 kts.
others we got 35kts.
the northern tip of the main Island has the Trades blowing along the coast pushing against the mountain ridges. It then is released pretty much right at Ellington wharf, and fired at the group of islands there.
Nananu-i-ra being one of them.

Small wind direction changes can send the wind right into ellington wharf, or go right past it. Hence the importance of a support boat comes into play, as you can anchor off reefs well in the wind line and kite in solid trade winds till your hearts content.

That's why we have our trip there every year.
