I am hoping to head down to Noosa this Wednesday and see forecast is for 15-20knot NW winds.I am hoping to kite in the mouth. I'm an intermediate 3 year kiter with SB2 10 and 12m. When I was last at Noosa it was dead calm so no one was kiting. I was hoping some-one with local knowlege may give me a few pointers.
1. Is best place to launch at extreme end of road that leads off of Hasting Street (near spit)or is it better to catch punt and drive to North Shore and launch from there?
2. High tide is 10.30am. What would be best time/tide to kite mouth?
3. Beside being careful of other craft there is there any other hazzards?
4. I believe NW wind should suit the mouth. Would you expect other kiters to around mid week?

Cheers

I heard the only real kiting done there is in NE with an outgoing tide. Haven't had the chance to kite there though. Have a look around on the net for more info, im sure you'll find something

What happened to the wind!!!

Only about 6-8 knots.

But a great location. Looks like it would be best on lower outgoing tide.
Lots of people (kids) on spit though but it is school holidays. Took ferry accross to North Shore and that looks like a great spot to launch uninhibited so I was going to do that but the wind didn't show.

SO YES I SENT A SUBMISSION TO NOOSA COUNCIL TELLING THEM TO
RECONSIDER THEIR BAN CAREFULLY OTHERWISE MYSELF (AND MY WIFES MONEY) WONT BE FOUND BEING SPENT IN HASTINGS STREET LIKE IT WAS TODAY!!...BLOODY WIND

this is a reason why they wanna close the mouth

"There is a further issue of kite surfing causing
disturbance of resting/roosting shorebirds in the
Noosa River estuary near the river mouth. The
shadows cast by kite surfers have a similar affect to
the bird’s natural predators causing the birds to lift."

WHAT A JOKE!!!

the shadows cast by the kite!!

you can not be serious!!!!

lol yep... read the other topic on this... so the shadows scare the birds and the million hooning 4wds make them want to lay eggs. An environmentally friendly sport and we get this.

Blownaway said it all. When the D9 catterpiller starts moving rocks to enlarge the break wall in early August, what will the birds think of the noise, vibration and appearance of those huge yellow monsters we call 'earth moveing machinery'.....the whole deal is a hoax and its obvious that any reason to stop kiteing at the mouth is just an excuse by council to delete us from there view of the 'big picture'they have planned for the Noosa River Spitt....bloody LUDICRASS......we all know the sport of kiteing is contemporary, enviromentally sound,entertaining,healthy...the list goes on for positives, just a few minor nergatives that CAN be addressed, if only those narrow minded, fun stopping ignorarmuss's we call council were'nt committed to certailing our sport on the river and beyond to appease the demands by a very small minority

'low flying NATURAL predator's'.....what, low flying sea planes, hovercraft's,helicopter's,that are also on the baning list from the mouth, although no one has ever seen them (except the rescue copter)on the river..If the council think there ridiculous reason's for banning kiteing will gell with the general public they are WRONG It has got to do with the whole restructureing of Hasting's St to care for visiting wealthy yuppie's that would'nt know the difference between a kite and a coffee lattae

the truth alway's hurt's Relo, least I'm upfront with my thought's and don't hide from the fact that biased opinion's about kiteing around the waterway's on the coast of Queensland are making a huge negative impact on the future of the sport in this region,I have been a good diplomat for kiteing and have alway's treated 'the power's that be' with respect.Dont forget that only a couple of week's ago ,kiter's were labelled 'marine thrill seeking cowboy's with no respect for anything'splattered across the local paper's P.S,I have edited my last comment's a little so as not to offend anyone in particular for the benefit of the cause.

well said, we are still fighting against the government "mega marina" at my local spot (tin can bay, sandy straights, inskip ect)
at the moment it is on halt, we have a green council member (who sails with me) but at the end of the year when they merge us with noosa all will be lost :| i know there isnt many marina spots between here and the goldie but atm our small marina is nowhere near full, a big million dollar boat could not make it in and that where they are gonna put it is national park!
at the moment we are getting monthly visits from the goldie riveria club, which means at least 20-30 million dollar 40 or 50ft boats screaming around the straights burning fuel like no tomorrow.
i had them cut through my sailing state titles at 30knts. it's not us that is wrecking the spots it is a select few "cowboys" as u say the screw it up for the rest of us

"Positive" you say? How about constructive?

Do not get on your high horse here and asperse people that are making a decision on their information of which they are given.

At least why dont most of you offer contsructive advice as some have done and relinquish the remarks and comments to those that are 'the converted'.

Just an outsiders point of view

Still wish you all the best in the endeavor

What happens if the Council gives in to kiteboarders?

When the jet skis,4x4 drivers, windsurfers etc.get together they will then have to permit them !

You need to get the area declared a "passive recreation area" with a 4 knot speed limit for power vessels.
