I am planning on travelling to Tas for 10 days for the Xmas and New year period and would like to know any recommended places to kite. I will be mostly on the east coast, being fairly new to kiting having come from a surfing background I can kite upwind ok, but would like to kite in a safe environment. I have all my own equipment so would not need to hire anything, Any suggestions would be very useful, thanks

there's a fair crowd of kiters heading to tas over the chrissy ny period by the sounds of it!
I'll also be there, and am looking forward to getting out at some of the spots I keep hearing about!
hopefully santa can deliver us some sweet winds while we're there!!

Thanks for the information, I will probably be around Freycinet National park for a large part of the holiday. Flat water is prefered, waves ok..Many spots around here?

Friendly beaches = surf on the eastern side of the peninsular in the national park or state forest,
for calmer water try heading in to swanwick on the frecynet side of the end of dolphin sands. You should be able to launch from the beach into great oyster bay from there with out traveling too far for relatively flat water. the beaches closer in to coles bay are often more sheltered due to the Hazards (granite mountains), the beach at swanwich should give a better chance of clean air. there can be a strong tide in the river mouth there, the sea breeze often comes in south/ south east so some runs across the mouth and along dolphin sands should be possible, keeping you safe from the depths

Kernokiter - if it's flat water at freycinet you are after, definitely recommend Swanwick. Friendlies is a great surf spot - if it's working tho, I would recommend being confident in the surf before hitting it. Hey, good luck with all that scenary. It can be hard to take
