I live at Tin Can Bay which is just south of Fraser at the base of the "straights".

There is one guy that kites here, me too soon (I just windsurf at the moment). There should be a fair few decent spots on the western side, I think I read in a post a while back that off Kingfisher Resort is decent. As long as there is a spot to launch/land it should be ok. Wind is a quite gusty a lot of the time also, depending on where you are of course.

As far as the eastern side goes, plenty of beach but apparently also plenty of sharks. I wouldn't recommend the bar either. The tide rips in and out of there and gets quite rough.

Yeh Fraser Eastern beach has miles and miles of beautiful surf beach but I have seen numerous sharks close in the gutters while fishing. I have thought about doing a long downwinder along the beach but you'd want company and not want to fall in the drink too many times. You'd need a solid south east wind.
I have also considered kiting on the beautiful inland lakes but each time I check them out the wind is too gusty so I dont think they are a viable option.
Kingfisher Bay would be OK as long as the tide is not too high. You would also need the wind to be SW or NW which is a rare wind to get up here.
Hervey Bay is great for flat water in anything from SE to NW but the Weekend wind is looking very sad. Looks like you might just have to throw in an extra fishing rod as any kiting is looking very doubtful

Lots of great spots, heaps of wind too generally.
But not this weekend, the forecast looks great for fishing

Go fishing instead Matt and go kiting when you get back to Hervey Bay.

I used to surf heaps north of Indian head and Waddy Point. They would be great spots in anything North of Easterly. Sharks are there, but just keep away from the fish and fisherman. It is not as though kiters are in much danger of being eaten unless you plan some time in the water.

In a SW-SE, anywhere on the open beaches will work. Great downwinder potential, just have a 4wd drop you 10k's down the beach and kite back to your camp spot!!

or.... get your missus to drop you off on the way to the camp spot, so she can set up camp and have the beer waiting for you on ice [}:)]

Seriously though, watch for sharks! I fly over there a bit and man they are EVERYWHERE!

I went wakeboarding with my mates on the south western tip, just around from where the barges are. It was choppy as and it felt quite sharky!! It felt pretty dodgy waiting for the boat to pick you up. I'd be wearing some decent bindings if i was kiting there, so you don't have to body drag upwind to get your board! Trawling Anyone?
