Just wondering if anyone has kited on a slingshot recoil 142?
I'm just concerned with how well it will go upwind, if at all?
And how much power i will need.
Im 70kg's and will be using lf union bindings.
Thanks

Nope, but I kite on a 142 CWB.
I've drilled it and installed fins at each corner and it rocks.
Really good for flat water and good in the waves due to it's rocker and rail profile.

maybe a bit heavy but the concave and rocker smooth out the bumps in chopy water and the channels really "grip" the water for rail to rail carves.

This is great to hear... I have a mate who's got a wakeboard and I've been wanting to give it a bash on the kite, however I wasn't sure how she'd behave with the rails that are on the thing and the amount of rocker, but it sounds like I should give it a go hey!

i'm keen to know if anyone has kited with a recoil aswell.
They look awesome, but i could only justify getting one if i could use it kiting aswell.
Maybe just for the high-wind days when the rocker wouldn't effect the speed to much

You can do it but IMO your better off going with a kiteboard design with boots because due to the rocker you will need more wind to get planning and go upwind. Although you less likely to break a wakeboard. I know someone that rides a response 137cm and he describes that as to ride upwind comfortably you almost have to ride so powered up you can't unhook. The rocker is great for pop and landings but if you only want to ride one board I personally think your better off going for something that will be a bit more versatile for kiting.

Have a look at the price difference too, wake boards are like HALF the price of your average kiteboard.
Get a second hand kiteboard and a recoil ??

yeah I've ridden the recoil, and it was sweet once you're powered. Really nice pop, and smooth as landings.
It is a quick board, and you get planning pretty early on it, but you def need to be powered to be going up wind.

I think riding a wakeboard kiting, feels so much sweeter and smoother. the only downside being that you have to wait that extra few knots before you are powered.
I disagree with the point that by the time you are going upwind, you are too overpowered to unhook. I think it is better for unhooking. I find that because of the rocker and the board riding slower in the water you can go out super lit, unhook, and not get pulled off your edge, unlike a fast riding twintip, that starts accelerating as soon as you unhook.

I also have a kiteboard with unions on it, for days that are marginal, or thrashing on sliders.

wont the recoil only take slingy bindings coz the bolt spacing is designed for their boots? i could be wrong but think u might struggle with unions fitting

yeah, the 07 slingy boards would only accomodate the slingy bindings.

I had the driver bindings on the recoil, and then unions on my kiteboard.

I like the slingy wakeboards, but that "delayed" pop takes a little getting used 2. Anybody agree??

just go for a kiteboard and boots instead dude.. something thats pretty stiff tho.. wakeboards ar heavier so its also harder to learn on them. specially considering you need to go out more powered so if your not very confident in the tricks ur doing u get flogged more

i reckon the 08 mission is a much more responsive board than the element, and has heaps better pop

then they must of drastically changed since 07 as the one i rode was 07 and i found i ddnt like it very much. keep in mind i came from a strapped not wakeboarding background. but i still ride better in boots.

well i can get an 08 recoil for 700 or a 08 mission for 600
and considering the recoils retail for 800 and the missions for 900.
the mission is a better deal.
but im torn, i dont know what to get.
guess its up to the bank to decide.

maybe spend a bit more and get good bindings, your going to spend a lot of time in them and the unions i tried left a scar on my ankle for at least 1 month that i was reminded of every time i put work shoes on. The driver boots look as if they would be a pain if you got a shell or enough sand in them as they are closed toe and have a liner although I haven't ever tried them.
CBW or what ever the brand is that have hinges are terrible, they rust to the point that they are unusable within a season.

thats exactly y i went for them aswell.. so ur not totally lockd down and you can still have a little bit of movement in ur ankles to tweak out n stuff.. i havnt had any rashes or nething form.. just make sure you get a decent fitting pair.. i normally wear size 10 us shoes n i got a set of mediums and they fit perfect, L would work just as well as you got quite a bit of adjustment on them.

I've ridden an 08 mission and i didn't find it any different to the 07... If you've got the money you cant go wrong with the new Mauricio Pro - Concept... Spent a bit of time riding it lately and its reaaaaaaaaaly nice with unions :) Elements are good and cheap boards too but i find them a little small for boots and wake stuff...
I've ridden EVERY single board in EVERY size (bar a 127 Aura) from the 2008 LF range now. For Straps the best is a 131 Aura Comp, For Boots the way to go is a 135 concept purely because it's so controllable and comfortable with anything you throw at it...

yea i just got a liquid force concept 135 i ride ulta bindings which are pretty much the exact same as unions but are used for wakeboarding n have more support, and i love it. the board has heaps of pop and sticks to the water relli well. i use to ride a 128 element with ultra bindings found to relli hard to get up wind as when i edged the heel sideedge of the bindings caught water. if u are looking for a board with bindings go the concept either with ultras/unions or escalades.
