Really keen to kitesurf the spot in Yanchep this summer.
Used to surf it in my teenage years and is a really good spot in a SWer as the reef keeps the wave face clean it generally needs a 2.5 m swell or bigger to be good. On a 20knt seabreeze no one usually surfs it. Although theres lots of rocks and reef on the point its pretty safe Anyone kitesurfed there? Anyone interested in getting a crew together next time its on?
There was a post on here a while ago about "The Spot" when a bunch of good riders went up there and all hell broke loose. Do a search on the subject and read the thread.
You bring up a bunch of kiters to a heavily localized wave and youll piss off a lot of ****wits up there who think they have land rights.
I wanna go up during the week when its blown out for surfers and no ones out. This cant be done during the weekend as its one of the most crowded localized waves on the WA coast.
As to the thread I vaguely remember it but searching for "the spot" gives 73 pages....... I dont play world of warcraft so I do have a life.
I was one of the crew that went last year when it hit the fan. Basically they got pissed off when some of the guys went up and were kiting thru the main break where the groms were sitting. When we were hangin down to the right where the shorey is they were fine as normally only boogers hang there and there is about as much love for boogers as kiters.
I spoke to one of the boardriders from there as i am keen to hit it more this year and he basically said that they dont really care if we go the shorey but the general rules up there is on sundays (not all but some) there are comps on and generally everyone lets the comp ride and the others move. Also i am guessing if surfers are on the wave then they dont want us cutting thru the lineup, but if it is blown out and no-one is out then..... Tough call as i know they saved for the road to be put in etc. but then its a free country and they dont own it n all that too. I think the main thing which goes for all surf breaks is respect. We can get out of the way much quicker than surfers and they have right of way so if you are gonna go there pay respect and i wood not go the main break if there is heaps of surfers out.
Kiting nails or mainbreak is only gonna be cool if no-one is out.
I used to go there after uni at joondalup and surfed it by myself in the arvo when it was howling heaps, when its big the bay bombie will break so theres heaps of spots. Mate, I dont bother surfing anymore as this sort of bull**** has become the norm anywhere you go in the world.
Im gonna give it a go one of these weekdays when the swells right and the winds howling.
