Hey Guys,

Does anybody know were I can get red Dacron adhesive tape/material form, either local Perth or online. I have a small tear on my LE that I want to try to repair myself.

Tried it with normal red ripstop tape on the outside with black dacron tape on the inside, very strong except I have not stitched the ripstop tape. I feel it would not be as hardwaring as Dacron. I have used the kite since and seems to be working.

I have stitched it across the cut and it is strong, then reinforced it with dacron tape on the inside, now just want some dacron on top to seal the deal.

Cheers
Rich

Out of small tears big tears grow. You really need a repair in a LE or strut to be properly sewn.

I once had a big leading edge tear which I repaired in a similar fashion. Put the tape on and did a hand sew job....ended up holding forever, but it looked ugly. I fix my boards in similar fashion, they look lumpy and ugly, but the solution is quick and effective.

You should try kitefix. This product range has red Dacron and you use a Glue to help stick it.

Cheers Guys,

I know about kitefix, I've got the small kit that came with the kite. I found kf dacron tape on one of the online kite shops but lost the link.

Tried to do a search for kitefix dacron tape/kitefix products on ozzie online shops but not successful, you guys need register your products more with the search engines, or whatever it takes to make searches easier.

The ARSA one is alot cheaper than the previous site, if I recall correctly they wanted $35 for 5feet, Ouch!

The main reason I don't want to send in to get it repaired is because they will open the LE up, and I feel that it will weaken it more than a small cut. I know that some shops do give a brilliant warranty on LE seams but I still would like to try.

Once again thanks.

Cheers

Hey Rich,

Kite Fix in Australia is getting more popular, not many know about it but we are making efforts to change that. In regards to search engines, ARSA site has just gone live a few weeks a go and as far as I know search engines can take a while to pick up your site, unless you use adwords etc..

The products great, and I encourage all kite shops to seriously look at it.

Thanks

Joe

You can try Stuart Bell Sails, they used to make all thier prototypes in Perth and had the dacron stickyback in all colours off the roll at 45 carrington st Nedlands.

Thanks RayQ, I'll keep that in mind.

Well I have finished my LE repair, ran a stitch along the rip, stuck adhesive dacron inside and out, and then I hand stitched around the patched area twice with upholstery thread.

Do you guys recon that it could strong enough? I put on some Kitefix Gluefix just to seal it off and make it a bit more hardwaring, does look as neet though.

Thanks to ARSA for supplying the red dacron tape.

Mate, I'd bet that your repair is the strongest part of the kite!

No wind so beached as bru

Nah - did have one good sesh but have'nt managed to align several solar systems for a couple of weeks. Kite is super easy (and fun) to ride. Almost too easy. Still stonkered by the wind range.

Is it summer yet?

Getfunky nailed it on the head (Thanks), I always like to try things, at least once just to see if I can do it.

Oh by the way the kite that belongs to the above bar was stolen out my car this evening and I never got to try the bar out .

I know Neil and I respect his work and normally I take my kites to him but like I said I just wanted to try it out. I also wanted to prevent opening up the LE seam for such a small rip that runs across the LE. If it was length ways I would definitely get it done by Neil.

I got some black dacron from Neil which I used on the inside.

The time it took to repair the kite by hand was around 3 hours, maybe more, normally it would not be cost effective doing it myself but at the moment I have alot of time during my kids sleeps to do projects like this.

I mean no offense to anybody.

OH Yes, and I have been known to repair water damaged phones aswell, as long as the battery was removed straight away and the moisture removed out the phone, it should be all good. Just did it to my sisters phone a couple of weeks ago.

I use isopropyl (spelling) alcohol (same stuff used to clean CD's and in swimmers ears ear drops) to remove the moisture from the dismantled phone then shake off excess and dry phone with hair dryer and assemble)

If the water was salt water or urine, good luck!
