Well not entierly correct there Galah, there is no industry on the edge of lake. The BHP site is located on the other side of the hill near Warrawong, unless water runoff runs uphill, ill eat my kite!
Plenty of tests have been done and very little idustrial run of if any gets in the lake. The main problem is dog poo, garbage, grass clippings, shopping trollys etc,and the fact that they blocked off the other entrance to build a shopping centre $$$$(harvey norman). It was cheaper to fill it in then build a bridge, because the river bed was very wide and shallow. Then poeple started building all around it more dog poo, garbage, dog poo, grass clippings, dog poo, shopping trollys etc which add sediment into the lake blocking the only entrance at Windang.Have heavy rain for a week and waalaa instant Toxic Soup, but it gets flushed out at least,if a doesn't rain you get toxic algea this really ponky on the nose smell on all your gear, step on something sharp and its instant pain and takes weeks to heal.Mind you there are some one of the best flat water spots on the south coast, but it helps if you have a boat.
