Thinking about winter spots that I haven't kited. What are the best spots in the winter westerlies on lake Illawarra? Are there any other spots you know of to try this winter? Looking a couple of hours north and south of Sydney.
G'day i've wakeboarded in the lake for years and the wind comes up by 10 or 11 so last year i decided to take up kiting to fill in the rest of the day lol i've heard rumours of people kiting in the lake over at primbee on a n/e and think it would be great but everyone i've spoken to down the beach dont seem too keen on the idea.On a westerly i'd say berkley or oak flats would be the go but i'd wear a bouyancy vest as it can get pretty wicked out there sometimes
illawarra yacht club would be alright in a westerly, and a bit of space to set up as well.
Yeah had a look there a few weeks ago but could be a bit dodgy on a westerly as if something goes wrong your dragged across the bitumen and straight to the bar at the yachty
Vid was taken quite a few years back Place to launch is Purry Burry Reserve Primbee ,very open to westerlies therefor not as gusty as anywhere else around the lake foreshore but still very dodgy being a small area and a few trees to manoeuvre past Very shallow can walk out 500m and is still only waist deep 3 km runs to Windang Should be guys there Sunday Have fun and be safe.
Thanks guys. I hope to see you down there over the winter. SW round to W I take it are the best directions, SW being the best?
I really haven't kited enough over the last few winters so i'd be keen to hook with a few of you guys when it's on. I don't like kiteing new places on my own and the beer after is better with others.
