Hahaha yep I tried in the middle of winter back in 2001. Very windy, but super gusty. I left my shoes on with my 3/2mm till I got my kite in the sky and well as soon as I took them off the gust's hit bad, getting pulled over the sharp rocks was not fun. Girlfriend at the time running after me and laughing. I got to the water's edge and the kite fell out of the sky again and bam massive gust, into the water/mud face first!

On the back of my truck I geed up a large tub of hot water to pop my feet in.
Second go was just as bad as the first and I never did get up and riding on the water that day. **** it was cold.

Good luck on the lake if you get up and riding and post some pics if you get off the shore. You can see the wind line but its just very hard to get there!
Good luck with that one.
I would these days be sitting in the Jindy Pub watching and having a great laugh....

Have not had a chance to get back up to Thredbo to get out on the range as had heaps of work on but now joined the ranks of the unemployed so hope to get up some time next week, just been looking at the lake and getting all glassy eyed seeing the wind on it but as everybody says you can see big holes in it especially near the shore line also water looks cold but air temp good! send me a message if you coming back down

I lived there in the 80s.A mate and i owned Alpine Sailing.[the cat hire next to Snowline Caravan Park]
We sailboarded back then and it was very gusty. The most steady direction was
north to north east. Dosn't happen very often, and not that strong. NW to SW
are stronger but gusty.Water temp gets OK by November -December.
Look up Richard at Snowy Mountain Sports he may be able to point you in the right direction. Not sure weather he still sailboards. We would often go to Merimbula to get a steady NE sesion [only 2 hours].
Good luck
