Hi,
Can anyone tell me what the kite surfing is like in Langebaan for an intermediate rider in late January?
I know that it is a popular spot, and that there is a lagoon and ocean/bay beach, but not much more unfortunately.
Also any idea of wind strength would be great too.
thanks,
Tim.

I just uploaded some pictures from my trip a couple of years back. Its an amazing spot. Best from November till around Feb, you can expect wind around 8 out of every 10 days. Starts blowing every morning around 7am, and you can be on the water with a 16 at that time. By lunch you're often on 12's and by the end of the day you can be on 7's. Some days it just stays at 25 knots but it also often goes up to 40 knots. Its perfect for beginners provided you stay in your wind ranges. Watch the tides so you don't drop your kite and head out to sea, but they have jetski's on hand.
Two main spots to go to, main beach and shark bay (sand sharks so no danger). shark bay is largely dependant on tides and requires a walk of about 50m down a slope to the beach. Don't leave gear in your car, it can be stolen.
Best spot to stay at is a place called Schaapenzicht which is right on the beach. I can get hold of the number for you if you want so PM if you need it, can't remember it off hand. They are 6 sleeper chalets on the beach at around $35/person/night self catering. If you are going alone, you can stay at Rex's which is another spot there. Restaurants across the road and pubs there as well. Booze is cheap, around $2 for a tequila in the pub, around $1.50 for a beer. Rum and coke around $2.50. Good steak in a restaurant is around $10 or maybe a little less. Not too many women in langebaan but if you want a party, you can head to cape town for some parties, gorgeous women and lots of them. If you want waves, head to blouberg.

Hey Athol
Just been looking at some of your pics on flickr. Quite a few bring back some memories of SA. Left there in 1999 before kiting was around.
Cheers
