That would be right Iam just about to go out ,should be right if I go south of Floreat as the wind should push the whale north towards scabs. He should be pretty full by now anyway.

kited City Beach to Brighton, beach inspector came down and told us wouldn't be wise to go out... we did any way. Found the tail end of the carcass at Brighton when we came in. Thing had huge teeth marks in it. Seriously next time I'm taking the advice. F%*K that.

Hi guys,

There are a few around. One of the spearfishermen in our freedive club was "bumped" by a great white out off Rotto whilst freedive spearing. It pushed him back to the boat with his spear in it's nose.

He promptly left the water and said it was longer than their 19 foot boat

Be careful!

Cheers,

KH

Another reason for me to go on the river today with it only being about a foot deep for the whole kite spot... Pretty sure he wont make it that far up the river-he's huge!

Yesterday I chose to do a downwinder from the Floz to B ton which is past the scene of the crime.

I thought I would mix it up and take by centre fin out of my board to make it a twin fin and take my straps off.

Well this caused me to be dangerous ! , that shark is lucky he did not run in to me as I could of taken him out.

Apparently the vis was really good, it came up behind him and bumped him, then circled before coming in for a test bite. Thats when he raised the gun and stuck the GWS in the snout, it simply pushed him back until he bumped into the boat before it turned and swam off.

He was a pretty cool customer and a very experienced South African Spear fisher so was used to bumping into Zambezi's and GWS.

This all happened on his first WA dive after most of the guys had told him "Nah, you rarely see em" LOL.

Yep, spare daks required! He climbed back on the boat and it circled the boat and swam by close enough to touch it. Thats when they saw the head pass the bow as the tail lined up with the transom of a 19 foot boat. That'd make it about 6m ish.

Glad it was him and not me, but then again, no self respecting GWS would bite a diver with a wetty full of Sh1t...... I hope.

Cheers,

KH

I had a look at the photos. " Great white mauling a carcass".

Looked like it was eating the carcass, not mauling it. That is what sharks do they eat things, have been since long before we evolved.

When we need to be really concerned is when there are no sharks to maul the carcasses. When that happens we won't be in the water.

Fortunately it will not be in my time.

As the usual crew were leaving brighton at dusk last night who was that guy with a downed white C kite about 2 ks out from Contacios. Nobody should be out that late , that far out, with a kite he can't relaunch.....especially when some blokes with a JCB has just swiped dinner [the whale carcass] from the beach and a 4m white pointer is hunting around for an alternative meal ticket.

He got in.

I've seen him in the water and I just ran out of water.
After two weeks I'm still not brave enough to go back in the water.

It is so hard to explain it to him that I am dumb as a carrot and you are not a vegetarian!!

He was in Leighton and everyone thought he is a cute wale, yeah he is that big.

I'm sorry dude, but there is absolutely no doubt that what we saw that day was a whale - I nearly hit it.. It was a humpback - still bloody scary when it surfaced less than 2m away, but it was definitely a whale.

Yep, that was def a whale off Leighton.
Sharks don't flick their tails up and make water spouts from of their blowholes.
Plus the sharks stay away from Leighton cos its so close to the harbour

Big fat healthy creatures out there still

I had a dolphin the size of a horse surface next to me on the river....if it wanted to, it could have taken me out for sure.

Could it have been white with yellow trim? A Core? I noticed him trolling for sharks there yesterday with his board half a lines length upwind of him.

I don't know if whales eat carrots.

But why do you ask? Have you seen a whale throwing up recently?
