Subject: Kite surfing - Cottesloe
Just to follow-up on your letter and recent phone call. Thanks for the letter, I will be putting a report on the matter to this months round of meetings. The report will put the options of forming a committee to look at the matter (similar to what was done regarding hang gliders), giving approval and setting similar conditions to that imposed for the hang gliders (only those that are applicable) or enforcing the provisions of the Local Law. My recommendation will be for approval subject to conditions such as those you have already put in place (signage and a designated area for launching and landing), only association members (for insurance purposes), liability cover where the policy provides indemnity for Council (I understand that the hang gliders policy contained a section that provided a blanket exemption for state and local government bodies) and that approval be annual commencing with a six month trial period (again similar to the hang glider approval).
The matter will be dealt with at the Works and Corporate Services Committee meeting to be held 22/6/04 and the Committee recommendation will be dealt with at the Council meeting to be held 28/6/04. Both meetings commence at 7pm and public question and statement time is one of the first items on the agenda (usually start a few minutes after 7). The Committee meeting is in the Mayors Parlour and the Council meeting in the Chambers. Both rooms are in the upper level and assessed from the west side of the Cottesloe Civic Centre building 109 Broome Street Cottesloe.
Regards
