Hi Guys,
The Kite class of the Ledge to Lancelin fell by the way side years ago when the insurance became too difficult. The other problem that didn't help was the fact that there was a kiter pulled up over the rocks an an expensive aerial or two was snapped of one or more of the crayboats which were positioned as rounding marks on the offshore markers.
Add to this that the polies weren't happy with kites coming in and stealing some of the limelight and it became easy for the pub owners (organisers) to put it into the too hard basket.
Problem was too many kiters without sufficient skill level entering which lead to rescues and dramas. I don't really blame em for dropping kites. Windsurfers by comparison are less than half the headache.
The race we did do was an altered course from that of the windsurfers and had been shortened. It was kinda fun but badly organised with a change to the course announced 10 minutes before the start when half the fleet were on the water etc.
I don't miss it!
Good winds,
