Just a warning to those who kite at Leighton beach.
Today my car was broken into while I was out kite surfing.
The window of my car was smashed in and my wallet , mobile phone, house keys and board shorts stolen.
Due to the stormy weather there was not many other beach users at the time.
I'd recommend avoiding parking next to the pedestrian bridge when the area is quiet.

it is getting a little weird there.
and its nothing to do with the pedestrian bridge cause the other day one lady spotted a car with 4 people in it and they were trying to break into a 4WD car.
and as I said here 200 times, I got my gears stolen there about 3 months ago.

I'm thinking about buying a big angry dog and put him in my car while I'm kite surfing.

But seriously each time I'm going there I'm putting all of my stuff (pants, kite bag, pump, mp3 player, ...) in my cars trunk and I'm locking it that it only can be opened by my car keys.

Its a little too late for me to explain my experience but who knows, maybe it will help someone else.

Using any beach car park (bar none) during weekday working hours means minimum people around and maximum opportunity for these ar5e holes to take advantage.

Get the crappiest car, leave the windows open leaving nothing in side, never take phone, wallets etc to the beach.

I’ve found out the hard way too.

Best idea.
Plus remove the distributor cable and take it down the beach with you.

fjordfiend,

I was there Monday 3-4:30pm, I worry about the car too and yesterday I was also worried about the house since we got burgled end of last week.

I never take my wallet with me just in case or should I say when the inevitable happens.

Kited there today Monday 16th between 11:30 and 1pm and my mates Landcruiser got broken into.

Judging by which car and window they broke I would say they were in a car so the footbridge wasn't the issue, in fact that may even help deter with the pedestrian traffic.

Beware when kiting at the beachs esp mid week and take the view that your car will be broken into. I leave absolutely nothing of value in the car.
