Look at the spot he is riding at! flat water!

The video is sic, I agree but why is it that Ruben needs to ride in front of the launch and landing area anyway.

Thats like the problem they are having in Kailua Bay, Oahu. people (general public, kayakers etc) not respecting the 50m of launch area specified for the kiters! It causes massive problems for the kiting community in Kailua and may end up getting the whole thing shut down (refer to post on kiteforum.com by Eric Eck).

Ruben is a great rider, no doubt, but he and his buddies attitude towards the sailboarders (who have probably been using that spot for the last 20 years or more) is shameful. The attitude of others on this forum that disrespect other water users rights is also about as lame as it gets.

And we wonder why we have issues with the rest of the community with regard to the image of kiters! As with most things, it is the few that make life difficult for the many.

Maybe it's about time to grow up and show some respect for others!

Kitehard...
Look at them....
Windsurfing on flat water is as lame as it gets!

Why do you need a launch and landing zone anyway?
when i kiteboard i rig up and go straight out right in front of where i rig up, i dont leave a spot clear for launching and landing.

Ruben would have done the same, rigged up launched and kept riding in the same spot.

Just look at the poleboarders, one of them had like a 1970's bike helmet on.. they are kooks, move aside for the progression.. sure they can ride and they deserve to be abe to ride and luanch safely but i cannot see how ruben is causing that much trouble.

was reading a little a few weeks ago.

apparently its a place called sherman island in san francisco which has been a windsurfing spot for 25 years. Its the same place as he was jumping from the roof of the hut. Its a very small area in a nature reserve, access is via a path that runs through a few hundred meters of swamp and bush. Previously kitesurfers had ripped up a ****load of the bush to make the beach bigger, bit stupid when we're talking about a nature reserve. Really the place isn't for kitesurfers, there isn't a wide beach for setup and its congested.

It doesn't matter whether you think windsurfing is lame. The fact is he didn't obey local rules, he was dangerous and he has potentially endangered riding access for all.

I don't know if you can see it in the video but his suicide leash snapped and his kite went flying into the bushes just past that old guy on the windsurfer.

Either way he was being a tool, but so was the woman. Honestly if I was a 70yr old windsurfer trying to have fun I wouldn't want some woman paying me off as some fragile old fool who needs protection from some woman.

Maybe the shrill woman, the in-your-face cameraman (I think he was the one yelling ****-off all the time),
and kitestar should pull a few more billys.

The only cool dude was the 70 year old poley wearing the dork helmet.

I am new to kiteboarding and sorry, but the attitude of the the film crew was disgusting. I remember years ago when snowboarders were the trash of the mountains. People wanted them banned, it is only with integrating and respecting other people that use the common ground that we are all going to be accepted. If there is a designated launching and landing area, then let it be used as such.

It is people like spacemonkey who appears not to respect other people and may need an attitude adjustment are the sort of people who will give this sport a bad name. Spacemonkey - You may think that someone going out on a sailboard on flat water is lame, but to them who may be beginning, it is extreme sport. Everyone has a different level of extreme. If other people want to go out on flat water and enjoy a sport within their ability let them do it in peace. Don't judge someone because of what he or she wears. Ruben may have launched and landed in that same spot, but he was also continuously doing tricks in the wrong area.

That being said, Ruben had some awesome moves.

The thing i find funny is that the main person who seemed to have a really big problem with Ruben was the lady standing there in the 'launching and landing area' with her dog, Yet she wasn't windsurfing or kiting, so why the fk would she stand with her dog in the way of the designated 'launching and landing area'? I reckon she needs to have the pole taken out of her arse and rammed up her twat.

he shouldn't have been kiting there, the sands 70 years old and its obvious the local laws state you need to wear a helmet with the capacity to drown you.
