Let me introduce myself, my names Vanessa
I've been kiting, or should I say trying to kite for the last year. I am up and riding but only down wind, try as I might I always end up walking or swimming :O(
So I live in Bondi and would really appreciate any advice on good shallow, flat spots in and around the Sydney district, and of course any pointers on how to get my ass back up would would be great! :O)

Vanessa,

I'm not a Sydney kiter, but for getting upwind, the trick is to keep your front leg straight. It helps you avoid the "poo" stance, and makes up turn your hips in the direction of travel, all which helps you carve the board upwind.

Have fun!

What brooksy said. When I was learning to go upwind, I also found looks over my shoulder and picking a spot to where i wanted to go. Target fixation is a handy thing, just look where you want to go, and your brain apparetnyl does the rest.

And keep practising, stay positive. It will come soon, and it feels so good when you crack it.

Hi Vanessa
My name is Ian, aka the Sheriff.
The spot you’re describing does not really exist in Sydney. The only place is Towra but you have to be able to kite there or take a boat. Most people learn on Botany Bay. Have a look at the NSWKBA site for more info on exclusion zones extra.
I've damaged the meniscus in my knee and can't kite for a couple of weeks. I'd be happy to show you the places to kite and give you some advice. Send me a PM and we can set this up

Ian - sorry to hear about the knee mate, hope it gets better soon.

Vanessa, you should get in contact with the Crayon aka Caela, she does a lot for girl giting in Oz and can hook you up with lots of other girls etc (unless you want to be hooked up with guys and then every guy here will probably hit on you - not saying that your interested in girls either... um.. big hole, small ladder! bugger)

anyway, she's at [email protected] I think, good girl to know.

anyway, botany your best bet for learning or you can try the northern beaches and just hack the chop. Jervis bay in the summer is a great spot too, 3hrs south, MASSIVE beach and pretty flat water and greap wind. we'll be doing heaps of trips in summer and your welcome to join us.

Every time I see the title of this thread 'Let me introduce myself' it reminds me of the Hood's track!

Thanks for all the help and advice, I think I will drop Caela an email. Definatly keep me in the lop for Jervis bay (I know a good campsite at Cave beach).
Up untill now I have been kiting up at Old bar past foster and the lakes on the central coast, watch out for bottle tops though, got a nasty cut foot last year!
