I'm moving to Newcastle in 4 weeks and am curious about the area for kitesurfing. I don't know where I'm going to live yet, throwing up between Newcastle itself or Nelson Bay area. Whats the hot spots in Newcastle for kiting??
I haven't lived here (in Newcastle) that long either, but it seems that most people are into Nobby's beach which is (one of) the main city beaches. This works in the summer NEasters and also in Easterlys. They also go to Merewether which is good in Sou Easters and is also close to the city centre. In the westerlies people go to Squids which is on Lake Macquarie - about 25 min drive from Newcastle city centre, and some people go to Stockton, just across the river mouth from Nobby's. Nelson Bay has some amazing places to go as well, like Birubi which is great in a southerly, and lost of places to go in a NEaster (I can't remember the names, but they were fun!)
Probably the main difference is that I imagine it is not as crowded at Nelson Bay. It's not that bad at Nobby's but it can get crazy sometimes
