there is a kite shop in huskisson. I have called them before about south coast kiting. Apparently people kite in jervis bay near huskisson and on the huge beach that begins at shoalhaven heads. My oldies live just south of ulladulla so eventually i am looking to kite down there. At the moment i am enjoying the final stages of shoulder surgery recovery but could be down that way in march with my gear. Good luck mate

Hi Luke, there are a few of us at Batemans and further south, you'll find someone out at Broulee in a NE, and I know of a couple of kiters in Ulladulla, plus plenty of Canberra kiters head down this way. A few suggestions, Shoalhaven Heads, Jervis (get in touch with Dave at Dr Surf), Green Island at Lake Conjola, Broulee.
There is no shortage of surf beaches, but if you're looking for safe flat water you'll have to be a bit more picky.

just spent the break in Narooma.
tried out Kienta(I think that's how it's spelt) short beaches and vicious shore break and current.
Tuross Heads; Coila Beach, walk over sand to Coila lake, waves OK but a wanting to closeout strong current and heavy break onto beach. the lake was ok and tolerably gusty near sand but got gustier as you went across lake. Northerly wind about 23-25kts.
Batemans Bay; Surfside beach, onshore at beach but once you beat up into clear can be fun. only about 18kts, wind shadow from Island can beat you down, and the waves breaking over near the marina enticed me straight into another wind shadow plus incoming tide. Note: don't go there.
but back off surfside plenty of fun to be had if you take notice of rocks and stay out with plenty of room from beach. self landing requires a lot of confidence in your ability.

I hope that starts you off with the info you are looking for.

I stayed in Huskisson over Chrissy, never saw a kite shop, and none of the locals mentioned one except for Dr Surf/Dave?
Where is it in Husky?

hi there, i go down to jb[jervis bay] regularly and its a great place to kite.
last time i was down there it was blowing 15-23 knots and i kited myola beach, which is a continuation of callala beach[just on the northern side of the creek opposite huskison]. it was one of the best sessions i`ve ever had.nne wind clean as a wistle and the beach to myself.
best at low tide for lauching and landing room.
cheers

At Toby's suggestion I've been to Green Island (Lake Conjola) a few times now - definitely a great spot, although it can get a little up-and-down in the shadow of the island itself, and as it's offshore in the NE it can become problematic when you can't get your kite back in the air (as I learned a couple of weeks ago and it took me more than 30 mins to swim in and nearly lost my kite in the rocks and waves. Valuable lesson!)

The best access I've found is to go about 5km past the main Lake Conjola access road to Red Head Road (I think) which will eventually take you to the north side of the lake (Cunjurong). This means you don't have to negotiate the fierce current at the lake entrance with all your gear. You can, of course, launch on the south side and kite over but I found that VERY difficult the one time I tried it with the wind being too gusty in the shadow of the island for me to hold a line and the kite was constantly luffing. On the other hand, the other 2 guys didn't seem to have that problem ;)

Plenty of room on the beach for your kooky'est self-launch/land too.
