Hi everyone.

I'm looking for some basic gear to learn to kite board on.
A good friend of mine's pretty much caught by the bug and has gone all in on a new 12m atom, harness etc.
I'm just after some basic gear to learn on and see me through to the end of this very short Tassie summer.

Doesn't need to be brand new or flash. Above all it needs to be functional and forgiving for a beginner.

If anyone has a complete kit for sale or some basic beginer gear, please post here or PM me.

I've looked at the for sale section but as I'm absolutely new I don't want to just buy the first cheap kite I see and end up with something I can't get off the beach.

Cheers

KN

Hi NB

Go and see John at Canoe n surf in Devonport who has got some good gear for Newbies you can look at, kick it around
and if it doesn't suit so be it but it is probably the only new, current stock in Tassie unless I am very badly mistaken.

John's got Nobile Boards and Dakine, Flexifoil Atoms etc.

Yeah, I'm organising lessons through him. Seems like a top guy.
I'd rather go with second hand gear at this point though, mostly because I already have some costly hobbies and I just want to get a feel for the sport.

If I really get into it I can always trade up to better gear as opposed to having to offload brand new gear at a significant loss.

I'm about 75kg, 175cm.

Cheers for any help.

Champ the "buy & sell" section on here has hundreds of used item's up for sale, good place to start. I've been keeping an eye out on Ebay as i'm in the same situation as you (just starting out, don't wanna spend a packet - my main reason is i don't want to destroy new gear while learning) but managed to get a better deal on here... It's a buyers market.

Hey Kitenub

the summer seabreeze on the north west coast is so light... surely you gunna want the biggest kite you can get your hands on!

So where does the dude from devonport do his lessons? and where are the best spots on the north west coast. I will be moving to Ulverstone in 2 years... 3 or 4 years ago I bought a 12 metre over (used just off the ulvy surf club) but wished I had a 16... I think I will be buying a 20metre kite and a big board when I move over??

im gunna miss the perth sea breezes big time

Erm, the guys have some affiliation with kite republic I think, so from Melbourn, and the lessons are set up through Canoe and Surf in Devonport.

They're run at Port Sorrel, about 25k's out of Devonport which from watching the guys learning last Sunday seems like an absolutely perfect spot. Everyone there was learning on 10 or 12m kites.

I think I've come across a pretty good deal, just have to get the cash now. Looks like my plans of being a real tight arse are quickly dissapearing.

Keep the offers coming though, I've learned a lot in just two days. Well, lots of theory anyway.

were the guys learning able to stay upwind on their 10 & 12 metre kites?
