Sea Dog the fact is most kitesurfing shops sell second hand equipment but that is not what worries me...
What worries me is you said you are after a beginners kit. Does that mean you have never kitesurfed before? Then I highly recommend you go book for a lesson now beofore the long weekend. You can go with Ian Young, Choice, Fulltilt, Pelican point etc. (sorry if I did not mention you)
Once you have taken a lesson then its okay to go to the beach and be on 'your own'. I recommend then you go to a beach where there are kitesurfers that are willing to help you (nearly all are).
When I say on your own I mean where there are still people who can help when you are in trouble.
If you are a good kitesurfer then ignore my advice.
