Has anyone every kited Maianbar (Southern Sydney) in a W or NW.

As the name suggests its a huge sandbar that would provide super flat water in different areas.

Dunno if Port Hacking is large enough to provide a clean westerly though...

Can be done with boat support. Westerly would be a bit gusty. Only real problem is overhead powerlines running out over Yugo's place to Bundeena. In a SE the wind gets a venturi going through the passage and increases 5 knots. If tide is running out there are some awesome possibilities. Im keen

Hmm could get a few kites in there I suppose. Used to windsurf in Doruk Pk but only in a S/SE and a few could just get out to the bar if things were just right but not easy. Extremely gusty with any West in it. Must be more than one set of Power lines Wandaful, the ones I remember are near the Fisheries and I think they are at 80ft, easy to hit!

So all over to Juko's and throw ourselves off his back yard. You bring the boat Wandy. Send Felix out first and if he doesn't make it back we'll know not to go. Great idea.

in a westerly why not just kite on on the inside of the sandbar?

Im talking on these sand flats pictured below... the bar would act as protection from heading out to sea...

My auntie has a place there, at chrissy last year we were walking along the sandbar, perfect NW breeze and i didnt have my kite!

are the power lines near this area?

Uncle Rico,
Had a look on google earth looks like anything from a SW -W - NW would work on the inside as you say. I live in Lilli Pilli and i'll take a walk around to see if there are power lines this weekend. Mostly you could kite over the sand bar as quite a lot of it would be underwater, I'm guessing but only a few feet deep. I know at low tide its well exposed. You'd have to launch from the National Park side I think as I can't thing of any well exposed launch sites on the north side. This means a bit of a drive and park fee's but it could be an undiscovered heaven.

The inside of the sandbar is away from the powerlines. You would definately want to go by boat in case you ran into trouble, lost your board etc. 8 knot currents run through the channel. but would be awesome. My boat takes 5 people with 2 kites and 2 boards each. Ring me when its blowing!!!
