After seeing every second half whit wearing a travity or ben sherman t-shirt and thinking they are original. I have come to the decision to try and make some kitesurfing T-shirt as there is nothing worse than seeing six people in a pub wearing the same T-shirt .
I am not doing this to make some cash but to have some fun .
So what i am asking for is any knowledge that people can offer.
Where to buy good t-shirts from for printing on ,where to get them printed .And any different printing techniques .
thanks

I am based in perth

us kiter girls are pros on making our own t-shirts.

simple solution;

print logos reversed on iron on transfer paper. iron them onto the shirt!! works a treat.

one word of warning; make sure the shirt is not brand new and never been worn. at least wear it a couple of times so it stretches to the correct size otherwise when you put it on the logo will tear.

let us know how it goes !!

Hey hows it
I had a kitesurfing brand going back in Sydney Called SPECIMEN.I screenprinted the shirts my self with my own designs it's alot of work and had boardies and kitepants made in Indo. But the retail industry is so fical that it gave me the ****s and I called it a day. You best bet would be to do your own designs if you are creative and get pro screen printers to do them for you. I'll buy one.Good luck.

Hey,
We got a heap of band shirts printed up in a place in greenwood called excallibur, mel did a great job. we ended up getting another heap done in indo, but there was a bit of hassel getting them back here (a lot of trouble with customs) so i will get the next designs done by excallibur again.
I'm keen to buy one when you get em done.
good luck,
Az

Dont waste your time!

Every few months someone has a brainwave "Hey'I just realised ,there are no *kite*clothes !"

Then they come up with some cheesey slogan like "Kiters do it higher" "Kiters go down harder" or some other totally lame excuse for a logo.

Then they try to get ,like,$40 for a cheap cotton T shirt !

Screen printing is where they put a colour at a time on the shirt - more colours = more cost. You need to get templates pre-made. You also need to pre-order sizes and colours and put a wad of cash down to get them pre-printed before you sell them.

Heat-Press allows for on-demand printing so you can have blank t-shirts lying around and print them as the orders arive. The image is ironed onto the shirt. Also allows for 'full colour' images.

From what I understand screen printing will last as long as the shirt, heat-press, maybe not.

Once you've got your designs completed, pre-printed and have boxes of t-shirts, you need to sell them, through shops, a website or down at the markets.

So .. add in costs (time/$) for artwork, screen print templates, management, postage, online stores/IT, bank merchant facilities, physically handling orders, ... and yep .. you are pretty much are only doing it for fun!!

best of luck and yes its fun to play around with but I will throw in a bit of realism based on being in retail fashion for 12 years.
Think about your market - the kite surfing community is tiny.
In that kiesurfing community how many guys/girls think its cool to wear a piece of clothing that has i kitesurf image / tag on it.....maybe 10%
have a look at the major brands and the sports they asociate with
eg skate boarders wont wear t with apic of skateboarder
surfer dont wear at t with a pic of surfing or a surfing term
mx dont wear nx tess
what do they wear ,,,,,bradns associated withose sports
eg , mx - fox
skate - dc zoo york

surfing - billabong

We as retailers get approached 1-2 a week with omeone who has the next big thing in clothing 1 out of 100 get a start and then 1 out 10 makes it

realistally unless you have serious amounts of $ to design stock and market what you want to do - 100k will be a start

i dont mean to dampen your spirits but if u think its going to make u rich forget - your market is too small

cheers Bruce
its extreme
