Screen printing is where they put a colour at a time on the shirt - more colours = more cost. You need to get templates pre-made. You also need to pre-order sizes and colours and put a wad of cash down to get them pre-printed before you sell them.
Heat-Press allows for on-demand printing so you can have blank t-shirts lying around and print them as the orders arive. The image is ironed onto the shirt. Also allows for 'full colour' images.
From what I understand screen printing will last as long as the shirt, heat-press, maybe not.
Once you've got your designs completed, pre-printed and have boxes of t-shirts, you need to sell them, through shops, a website or down at the markets.
So .. add in costs (time/$) for artwork, screen print templates, management, postage, online stores/IT, bank merchant facilities, physically handling orders, ... and yep .. you are pretty much are only doing it for fun!!
