I'm sure it's been mentioned before but with the increasing number of kiters and parking congestion increasing I have to say it.

Melville Beach parade (between Ness and Nairn Streets) is a tragedy waiting to happen.

Why do I say so ?
Crazy drivers and motorcyclists (aka 'Hoons') blasting down the road
+
Dropping kites onto the road ( yes, I've witnessed it)
+
People unloading/loading their cars looking at the water not the road !
=
Big Bad

Unless the council widens the road or provides a car park (Fat chance) the danger remains.

The majority of locals with houses facing Lucky Bay would be more than happy to see Kiting and Windsurfing banned from the area. They have resisted any upgrade of facilities so far (thats why there is no toilet block near the Cunningham street car park.)

I know I sound like an old Nanna and I am a windsurfer but please take care on this stretch of road.

I hate the sight of blood, even that of kiters.

Luv y'all
(some of my best friends are kiters !)

P.S.
Just a thought, maybe a couple more speed humps could be installed.
Any objections/support if I were to raise the issue with the Council ?

-theres no room to add carparks really
-speed humps reduce the ammount of car parking
-we are lucky we are allowed to park there anyway considering how much it congests the road.

the best bet is to use common sense and play it safe.

This is always going to be an issue - have'nt seen anyone hooning on the road and people generally try and keep their cars respectful distance from the islands/junctions etc.

I think the main problem is kites being flown on the road side and above public heads - I was down last week just checking the wind sat on the bench when a rider rode right into shore the wind dropped his kite began to fall out of the sky and we all had to duck and jump out of the way as it powered up and just missed decapitating us all!

The white buoys are their for a reason, seasoned riders should know better as with just one small incident here or god forbid and injured member of the public and Melville will get locked down by the Council.
