Hi fellow kiters - Im thinking of going to the The Merimbula Classic this year in November and wondered what the heads up is on this event is!

It used to have Mambo as a sponsor but time has moved on but the Windsurf, Kite and SUP friendship and competition lives on apparently (in its 33rd year!) I had a short holiday in Merimbula at Easter (kited 4 out of 6 days!) this year and ran into a few of the local kitesurfers - sounds like a lot of fun!!

But !! I forgot to ask a few of the important questions :-(
Im looking at camping - where is the best place to stay? where is the focus of the classic as in main beach or does it move depending on the wind and swell ? and where is the big party on the Saturday night ( just thinking about getting home after!!)

Who's been there over the past 33 years and whats it like??

Plenty of camping! There is a caravan park just 100m away from the park where the event is (1st link), or you go to Pambula (2nd) which is a nice one next to the beach or ...or .
You have to drive from Pambula which is a bummer when you attend the parties in the evening. So better stay in town and you can walk.
There is also an apartment complex opposite which I was staying with the family (4). You have to be quick a lot of the guys stay there!

if anyone knows someone who'd like help with petrol money, I'm looking to organise a lift from Melbourne to Mambo after work (ish) Wed 20NOV13. Just me with a bag ... if option exists would like to take my SuP also (don't need a lift back, just up). Cheers - Hugh 04 2409 5545

If you dont like socialising to the max, eating to the max, kiting, suping, surfing to the max or have hangovers to the max then dont go.
