Have just spent the weekend kiting Middlerock, the best conditions of the summer to date. At long last, a weekend of good NE wind.
A four hour session Saturday and a downwinder from Lighthouse to Middlerock Sunday and I have that happy worn out Kiters Buzz. Sat in the carpark and watched unridden waves coming in and the wind still blowing Sunday afternoon, worn out, Bundy in hand and wishing I was 14 again and not 40.
The recent big seas have moved away a lot of the sand from the beach and the bigger sets are sitting up much further out. There are a lot of exposed rocks at the waters edge on the lower tide and for any riders out there that are coming to the Nationals, pack a spare set of fins just in case.
Hope the NE continue and look forward having you here again at our local.

Had my best waves there period on Wednesday arvo with Foodge, Rich and Dan and will hopefully bring back the dreams tonight, 9m Rebel and 6'2" Stuey tri fin overhead glass.

The banks are cranking left handers one after another and most sets are way to double overhead with pure glass faces.

Love the spot and shared it with surfers on the day with an awesome good will and vibe.

ANYHOW SEE YOU ALL AT THE NATIONALS AND ANYBODY IN THE MASTERS.....LOOK FORWARD TO THE COMPETITION.

Hi Ryland
So far it looks as though Judging/Judges will be the same as last year (one new Judge maybe).
We have no prizemoney. Is hard enough to get enough money to run the event.
We will supply the usual great location, (has been firing the best of the summer)
good times and hopefully wind n wave as per as last year.
We have Boards for the Winners, Trophies and the usual prize table.
Enjoyed watching you ride last year and hope you make over.

Richard T

Ps If you have any suggestions for Judging Criteria, would be more than happy to look at them, we are always trying to improve things and have had no feedback from last year. It is however pretty late in the game for this year, 6-10 Feb is just around the corner. . . . .

i just think level of difficulty should be rewarded. too many guys were getting through heats just cruzing. with the level of stapless riders in oz, if your wearing straps in later heats (finals etc) you need to be doing some pretty difficult stuff like bar passes etc. guys were doing strapped airs and getting scored the same as guys doing them strapless. no one will argue about what is harder to do . hope you get wind and waves.

It should be one of the rules to be strapless?

same old argument. not enough kiters to participate in unstrapped.

There was a committee formed after the last Nationals to go over the judging Criteria and ammend it to this effect but sadly the committee did not reach a decission and the existing criteria remains unchanged.

Rylands comments are valued and we will encourage all riders to turn it on at the event whether strapped or unstrapped. Bar passes combined with surfing moves will definitely score well but we are not judging a freestyle event in Port Macquarie. It will be a Wave orientated event so all moves should be combined with surf style riding and on the wave face. If your choice is to use straps then show the judges how you can push the sport with strapped riding and if your choice is unstrpped then again show the judges what moves you can do in the critical sections of the waves. Showing the crowd and the judges the most difficult moves you can do in the breaking part of the wave and combine it with length of ride will definitely help in your end result. No use cruising the shoulder at all, doing rodeo tricks on the way back out or riding just the foam at this event.

Oh by the way Julian Kidd will have the final say on the juding again this year.

Regards

Glen

For the next three years or so,
I believe the Wave Nationals should be strictly strapless riding.
No straps allowed.
Just let it run its course.
Call it an experiment of sorts.

This comes from a soul-kiter who rides strapped on an alien surf-vehicle.
I ride waves and I jump waves.
So I'm speaking with no bias, just observing from the sidelines, an interested spectator.

No amount of creative accounting with extra bonus points can make a mixed contest legit.
It only makes it bitchworthy.
If you want a level playing-field, get rid of the straps.
If you want parameters with consistency of style and moves, get rid of the straps.

Wavekiting is made up of two different skools now.
A mixed contest is a travesty.
