Will be over there for a week over Easter with car and kites. Anyone have any experience with kiting on the island? Is Yellow Patch good for a NE and pretty much anywhere along the eastern beach good for SE? Are there any nice tidal lagoons or sheltered areas? Are my wife and I going to be shark bait?

Yellow patch is great in a NE but can get choppy depends on tide to some degree. I have kited the western beach only and that was shark bait country god help anyone who whants to do the estern beach.
If we don't hear back I guess we know the answer to the eastern beach.

I use to go fishing around that area when i was a kid, since then i have fish many places around australia and the world and i have never seen as many sharks sooooo keen for a feed as morton islandOr maybe im a local who has a great secrete spot on the island that i dont want to get outlol.Serious man, after fishing the area,i wouldnt want to kite there.Especially if you loose your board and have to do a bit of body dragging..Shark bait
But if you are keen to get rid of the misses send here out first

did a bit of diving on the western side of the island a few years ago on the artificial reef (sunken boats) and saw a couple of good sized tiger sharks cruising around in what would be about 20ft of water max
definetley send the wife out to test the warers

Hey simon!!

havent seen y at brighton for the last couple of sessions last weekend was a cracker!!!! where were you?

two weekends ago i was fishing off of Peel Island just off north stradbroke Island bay side, one week after the shark attack, n have to say theres alot of big fish this time of year, easter should be a bit better, but the sharks are always there not just in the deep water, heaps of em!!! big ones!.

Ive been fishing off morton a few times, n its pretty much the same,

just avoid early morning n late arvo generaly cause thats when they bite the most.

oh yeah n stay away from the deep channels that run close to shore, hit the shallower waters like near the resort it should be much safer. n as always having more people around is a good thing.

Dont want to put you off but as always just use common sense.

Morton should go off theres always heaps more wind out there so you should have heaps of fun, i,m hanging to hit it myself!!! hmmm clear water :)

simonmm, for fcks sake, just kite the place!
if i put some good set baits with burley at brighton or wello,
i would probably catch more toothy lurkers than on moreton.
look, the waters clear at moreton, same as straddie and i've kited there recently near the latest fatality without incident, of course i was wary and observant.
don't believe the hype put forward by scaredy cats.
go kiting in the most beautiful sand island around these parts, i wish i was there now.
regards ian.

Sharks couldn't see crap all at Brighton but if Merman keeps cutting himself on those rocks then we are going to be in trouble

My thoughs are definitely take your stuff and kite there but keep a good look out for them. If you see one...especially of the bull variety...then do a spot of fishing. It would be great to kite in the shallows near the big sand dunes. There's great camping there too.

Hey taterchip - spoke with Vanessa. I think you are in mate...yum yum

Hey merman, been at the beach catching waves for the last couple of weekends. Am on the Gold Coast this weekend if you are interested in joining Vickie and me for a kite on either day.

Thanks for the posted info people (and another new shark thread). I was fishing over there just before Christmas and two large hammerheads were just cruising around the boat. My mate and I thought it would be sporting of us to cruise over to the kids swimming 20m away and let them know they were mighty good looking shark bait.

I haven't been down there for years, but I remember some nice looking tidal lagoons down around Kooringal. Anyone kited down that part of the island? The problem with all of the western beaches is that they would need a westerly to work, hence either Yellowpatch (northerly), the eastern beach or maybe around Kooringal (SE).

Porn sites?? It would be more interesting than what I am doing now that is for sure.
Stop exercising now merman. You are turing the ladies away with your rock hard abs. You might need to resort to a one pump system and go the battery power

What to do? I was going to go kiting this arvo and a mate has just called and he wants me to drink copious amounts of booze...gggrrrr...friends are so inconvenient sometimes.
