Welcome molteb, I am from Finland and I carry all time the while kiting my baby-seal-killing-spear. Scares sharks away.

Plenty of 12m kites around both winter and summer. You will be amazed how good/stable/non-gusty seebreeze is on summer.

Winter is also very warm. Air and water are both well above 15 degC.

Molteb, with a plan like this, you will be granted citizenship in no time. Sounds like a truly Australian thing to do.

Just a few words to add to your Aussie dictionary...
Noah (shortened from Noah's Ark) = Shark
Jellies = marine stinger (box jellyfish etc)
Erwins = sting rays
Snapping handbags = crocodiles

Hey Molteb

Drop me a line once you're down here as I'm happy to hook up over a weekend and show you the best sites in the northern beaches area. Manly has plenty of nice and afordable apartments and is a good place to live if you're not too much of a city slikker.

Am Dutch myself which probably explains the usefulness of this reply.

Tell your girlfriend to wear stilleto's when she goes swimming so she can use em to kick the shark in the gut when it gets turned on [}:)]. It won't help you but at least you can have a good laugh.

Yep.
If you are looking for a spot where you can surf/ kite, Cronulla is a pretty good spot. about 30-40mins from the CBD I reckon? Wanda's pretty decent for wave kiting and there's plenty of space. There're more options North of Sydney though, like palm beach, Narrabean and long reef.

Most of the surf beaches in the eastern suburbs are too small and too crowded for kiters. Definitely check with the beach inspectors before heading out.

If you wanan look for a place to live, the best thing to do is to get your ass here and start looking. You wont find much online and even if you do now, it'll be snapped up by the time you get here. We're facing a huge rental shortage here in sydney, not easy to find a place to live. Visit the real estate agents like LJ hooker, ray white, NG farah etc, they'll sort you out. They have websites too, just google it. or try www.domain.com.au

Winds dont normally get good until summer

Molteb,
Never mind the sharks, snakes, stingers, rays, crocodiles, ticks, leaches, dingoes or blue ringed octopus. The real danger in Australia is the dropbear. You will not find it mentioned in any of the official guides as the government do not want to scare away any tourists.
You can learn about them here...

http://members.ozemail.com.au/~enigman/dropbear.html

and here...

www.cfr.com.au/dropbears/

Hope this helps keep you safe

Good thing that you have the metric system down under. So I just have to learn to drive on the wrong side of the road.
