Hey, might be moving to Brisbane next year - following my girlfriend (I know, i know). What are the suburbs to look for - good for a kite and close to everything. Will probably be working near the airport, she'll be studying at UQ. What's the Fremantle of Brisvegas??

Don't move first up because kiting in Brisbane is 1/10th of what WA has. But if you do I would move to Manly or Wynnum on the south side and your only a few minutes from the airport. Wello point is the pick and your still not far from that.

Kurt's advice maybe a little harsh. But you do need to think about this. If your girl friend is moving to Brisvegas to go to UQ, then clearly that's just an excuse. UWA is much better and the kiting is much better. So I think the advice should be to dump the girlfriend and either get another one who will stay in Freo or just don't have a girlfriend and save the money to buy more kiting gear.....

I grew up in Attadale (pre kiting) and now live one ferry stop from UQ (in West End)....and dream about living back in Attadale or near UWA with walking access to Pelican Point! Being close to UQ and airport and kite locations (the best of which won't match Perth) is a forlorn dream. All is lost. My condolences. Perhaps Kurt is right...

Thanks for the support guys!

I'm definitely not looking forward to this move... maybe she can live in Brissy by herself for a while

A dilemma ever kitesurfer faces - time with the girl or time with the kite

Now Brooksy,
There's a reason why you kitesurf and it's not because you are a bit dim, it's because your'e smart.

Here's my advice:
1. Dinner, candles etc. (lots of books written on doing this right)
2. Create a really open line of communication(lots of books on this too), explain your passion and that you are prepared to move for her. (kisses, cuddles and loving looks will follow) Allow her to understand your deep love for HER rather than showing your deep love for kiting. Offer to work for the both of you to support her through her studies and that you've been looking at places to live (which you have) and are starting to look for work over there too.
3. Now, once the second glass of champagne has been devoured (limit your intake to not be trapped by your own stupidity), now start to negotiate.....If her course is 4 years, then the trade off will be four years for you, and you know what that means don't you. You have four years to think about where your four years of kiting might like to be.

Wello or Wynnum may not be "ideal" but the fact that you have a girlie you dig, who you want to hang with is cool, especially if the long term plan is one that involves four years kiting with the said girl lovingly accepting and agreeing to the choice!!.
Part of the negotiation is an agreement that you will also need time to yourself to kite when in QLD, that may mean two weeks away back here in WA. The options in the negotiation is only limited to the amount of work done in steps 1&2. Once the expectations are clear (locked in by a lawyer if need bee), you will be kitng with a really big smile on your dial and loving bayside.

Not all doom and gloom eh?.

NAH !!! Don't listen to him Brooksey.

Just flick the chick and move to the Gold Coast. There are a million glamours here and most of them are still comotose from the Indy Weekend.

Just buy an imitation diamond ring and when she wakes up just tell her she agreed to a two year engagement and promised to support your kiting aspirations until you receive your full sponsorship from Cabrina or slingshot.

Also remind her that she is to arrange at least one extra girl to stay with you each week. SHouldn't be too hard.

Hope this helps.

Such romantics in the kitesurfing community -

I might also try to justify this summer off just to kite, Race2Rotto, Kitestock, a few Gnarloo trips... she can't be mad at me for taking this summer to enjoy the last of Perth for a while...

I got divorced once already because my ex wasn't into kiting (among other things). Trust me....it's a whole lot better now
