Does anyone have any info or recommendations of where to stay in Mui Ne? Am looking to go there for three weeks from the middle of July.

Very cool place, many places to choose from. Just rock up there and look around to see what suits style and budget. Stay close to the center of town, basically 1 long main road, about 10kms long, center would be around the kiting schools. However not much wind in July from what I've heard, almost same season as ours, take a book!!! Get up early and watch them net for squid...cool to watch half the town group together to catch some food. www.windfinder.com/forecast/mui_ne_phan_thiet?utm_source=www.windfinder.com&utm_medium=web&utm_campaign=redirect
Have fun,

went there at chrissy. The water is like ice coffee, just has lots of filth in it. Personally I would give it a miss and go where the waters clean and theres good wind. West OZ has it all you just have to be prepared to travel. If its kiting your after then skip Vietnam, but if you want the culture experience then check it out for yourself. I hear Cape Verde has wind and waves, check it out

Give Tom a call from X-Shore Kiteboarding, he was an instructor at Mui Ne and is a mindfield of information! It's meant to be awesome and I've heard there's plenty to do when the wind isn't blowing.

Have a great time and let me know what you think as I'll be there later in the year

Hi,

I went to Vietnam 5 years ago on my honeymoon and wouldn't rate most of it at all. Didn't have a single shower where I fealt cleaner afterwards for the entire trip from Hanoi to Ho Chi Mihn. I don't mind roughing it but I wasn't paying roughing it prices. Hanoi is very pretty BTW but don't take your eye of ya wallet for a nanosecond.

Things may have changed dramatically in the last 1/2 decade but I would spend my hard earns in Thailand as the folks are much nicer (Viets HATE long haired guys and aren't shy about it) and better food/water/accomadation/pretty much everything. Another huge differance was the reaction to showing respect by using the local language. In Thailand they love it if you use a few simple terms such as Cup can krep (thanks - male version) and Sawadee krep (Howdy). In Vietnam they look at you like scum for using their language - weird.

Don't believe those smiling celebrities on lifestyle programs - the mongrels only ever stay 5 star and everyone kisses their hot rock massaged butts!

Whatch out with the language in Thailand!!! Rising, falling, minor, major and the other one - say Sawadee krep in the wrong way and you'll be telling them their nana sucks cucumbers for pleasure. Not a good way to make friend with the locals.

Sin Ciao (G'day - how it's said and not spelt :)

I was in Nha-Trang Scuba Diving and Mui Nae kitesurfing a month ago.
There was heaps and heaps of resorts now doing kitsurfing and although a bit expensive, was great.
Take your own gear if you can and definately try to catch a plane there or somewhere nearby as I took the slowest, bumpiest bus ever from Saigon and wouldn't do that again.
The locals are great and the food fantastic - have an awesome time as I did :)

pretty spot-on summary as well ... water ain't nice in the main season ... might be better in their off-season (may, june, july, aug, sept) but wind definitely won't be as good as the main season (late oct, nov, dec, jan, feb , march)

same sort of feeling I got from the locals - don't like 'em much ...gotta laugh though - "it's Krup coon Krup" for males & "Sawadee krup" and yes, Thais are much more friendly...

Thais will just smile and or laugh at you if you get it wrong ! They don't expect you to be able to speak the lingo properly ... you might be saying completely the wrong thing as Oakie says, but they couldn't give a ...k 99.9% of the time ...

That's the only way to get there that i know of... a long (4~5hrs), slow, bumpy & boring bus (or car if you want to pay a lot more) ride ... get prepared for it ...

i was in vietnam 3 weeks ago, didn't kite as it was a school trip. Only beach went to was China Beach and it was pretty dam windy there. things must have changed in the last 5 years as the vietnamese especially in the south are very nice people. learn a few words and lines, Sin Chow - hello and so on. they didn't mind us using vietnamese but they wanted to talk to us in English, they get a bit of a kick out of it. Great place and deffinantly go back over there.
p.s. dont give to beggers they swarm on u any chance, like seagulls at the beach u give 1 a chip 100 come, plus the government encourages you not to give them money as begging is a living for some.
