I'm a leaner, only had a few lessons. I was looking to buy a new Aero II, 12m. If anyone can share their thoughts on whether or not this is a good or bad buy it'd be greatly appreciated.

I haven't heard a bad word about the aeros (for beginner/medium AR kite), and the aero IIs were even better. pricier then some alternatives, but a sure bet.

They are a great kite for anyone other than someone wanting ultimate performance, and who can ride at a very high level.
Very stable, well made, good flight speed, and good turning without being heavy at the bar. Fairly easy to re-launch.
New ones are now discounted to $1399aud, so keep that in mind when buying second hand.

Aero 2's are IMHO an AOK kite.

My first kite is an Aero 2 12m and I have subjected it to extreme abuse (as is a beginners perogative). It has even had 2 near-death experiences with the kite eating trees of Altona (Vic) and survived. It still looks fine for all of its hardships & fly's great.

I have just picked up a 2nd Aero 2 16m for those lighter wind days. 2nd hand bargain (or so I thought until Best kites started dumping!) $800. I took it out the other day in about 15knts and it blew up to 20knts while I was out - its a hard sucker to hold down in those conditions 8o)

The only comment I would pass is that the Aero 2 offers a smorgasbord of rig-up options i.e. 2 leading edge pigtails and 3 trailing edge. Dont be fooled by how pathetically close together these options are on the kite - they make a hooj difference to the flying characteristics and wind-range. I reckon you can add almost 5 knots on the upper wind range based on how you rig it.

Some longer pigtails wouldnt go astray to add even more wind range when its ballistic. The 12m is my smallest kite - not counting the 4m Blade 2 foil - and I was left standing on the beach the other day when it was blowing 25knts +...perhaps with foot long pigtail I could have been out there.
