Hi, my name is Alex,
I would just like to let you know in advance that I would be honored to be able to partake in aforementioned award/contest. I have been really concentrating on my kitesurfing recently and the extra tips/coaching on how to promote myself would be highly benificial to me not only as an athelete but also as a well rounded induvidual.
I'm sure you need to actually see my kiting ability's first to make the final decision (or maybe not as this is mambo) but I think that I am probably the best entrant you will get. If you want to send me the prize pack early, or get a hold of me to help with my professional tuition could you please PM me ASAP because I have lots of other important stuff to do as well.

Thank you in advance,
Alex.

There will also be some other kites to be awarded as prizes for up and coming riders. Kitepower and Ozone have been giving away kites for the last 5 years or so at the Merrimbula event, and this year we will be doing it again.
If you are young, not sponsored in any way, love your kiting, make sure myself of any of the "judges" know who you are.

You boys need to be on the lookout for Harry Hayes, he is a young lad(15) from Altona and is ripping it up down here, nobody has set him up with a real sponsorship as yet , he is a super nice chill kid, with more skills than most kiters already. If a wholesaler was smart they would snap him up now as he will be a force in the very near future....

Oh I am pretty sure he is doing mambo as well atm he is riding Naish arx kites as its all he can afford and doing unhooked kiteloops and various unhooked tricks inc pass tricks that are hard to do on the new c kites of today..

Yeah he needs fins for sure, he would land everything he tries then, if he rides for KR then they should be setting him up with some 'demo gear' as a 15 yr old from the west doesn't come across enough cash to buy kites at cost or cost less 20 and his old gear is holding him back from making a bigger impact than he is on the kiting comp scene this year..

Just my 2 cents but you aren't sponsored until you get your gear for free or you are paid, untill then you can call it want you want but your just giving company's a great deal as you pay for what the gear costs them and give them great promotion, especially when you have the right personality and attitude like Harry does, I don't know a single person who has met him that doesn't like him.

Slingshot used to have a great program for groms, whatever happened to that?

Not trying to dig at KR at all, just trying to get this kid a bit of a break and be the best he can be, so sorry if it came out the wrong way.

Dear Sir ROWDY,
I want you to ride for my Kite company, its called Dangleberry Kitesurfing, we have fully sick kites that allow you to dangle hooked in and even take your board off at times but only if you use the handle we put on it for that reason, all I ask for is that you do massive boosts and keep your kite at lunch at all times, then when you have finished your session you do huge line lockers in your company supplied commodore sedan in the carpark to the delight of all the locals.
you can use fins on your surfboard but you will need to put some straps on it and put your boots on ebay! HAHAHA!

Thats not how it works. Just because a person can ride well does not mean they have a positive effect on the sport of the industry, that would deserve completely free gear.
Sponsorship is a two way thing, the person needs to be capable of giving something back.
If they don't enjoy ring for the sheer fun of it and always want to be paid to ride that would not be very attractive to any brand.
There are ways to get free gear, but its not really free if you know what I mean?
Sponsorship has to be a give/give or win/win relationship or it just does not last.

I totally agree with you Steve, I got a little excited in that post, I just feel that when you come across kids like Harry and there are others around his age who show the whole package so young and soon in the sport, it would be great if the industry could work out a way of supporting them as this will fuel the next generation of kiters for years to come, create more sales as I like other would be happy to spend money at a place that really helps our youth out not just in gear but like BWS said coaching them for their future efforts in kiting on and off the water.

Ideally this would come from our wholesalers through the shops, but there is people with alot of experience in this sport now who have professional careers from kiting (riding and suport roles)
who could mentor these kids and really help explode the Aussie kitesurfing scene as a whole...
