the 2010 kite prototypes are very similar to the 09's (suprise, suprise). Ontheloose.tv ep.6 has some footage of the new prototype kites, bindings, etc. Images of the bar however weren't that great.

While I'm by no means against innovation and evolution; unless you are pushing your gear so hard, and utilizing every last .01% of performance to the point where it's actually holding you back, the 2010 bar will not make you kite better.

Spend more time tweaking moves and progressing and less on frothing over new gear. At the end of the day you'll be a better kiter and far more content with life.

Coming from a surfing background, I find this 'toy' aspect of kiting strange. Suspect the desire to update every 12 months was bred in to kiting from the last decades rapid evolution of gear. I've just picked the craze up recently where from what i can see, all gear's pretty decent from 07' onwards.

Each to their own though...

As you were.

well said mike regarding the new toy aspect of kiting.

I think the re-designed bar is more to do with durability issues. The 09' bar is a lot more comfortable but the safety system lasts around 10-20 kites. The elasticated line that runs to one of the front lines(safety system) doesnt stay elastic for very long. my original lasted 3 weeks and 2nd lasted 2 1/2. This leaves a stretched line that hangs out 10-15 cm beyond where it is supposed to and gets tangled in everything. Easy to fix by tying it shorter, but changing the line to make it safer/more durable would probably cancel your warranty....

I love frothing over new gear. It's like being a kid again! I agree with your point about tweaking moves etc. You just have to watch kite DVD's from years ago to see that most things were doable on high aspect C-Kites. Kites are my hobby and I love getting new gear. I want kite/board companies to keep pushing the envelope and designing better equipment. For those who don't want to update every 12 months well done. Go spend your money on something else (like a new kitchen or on Botox injections). For those like me who love getting new gear keep doing it. Without customers like us, kite companies would be fewer and inovations and major developments would be an infrequent occurance.

PS I've had a number of 2009 slingshot bars and haven't had a single problem with any. But if they can improve on an aleady excellent bar, then that's a good thing!

My 3 cents.

"I think you'll find that is this years gear. Alot of that footy is a 6-8 months old"

The 2010 kites had 2 pigtails at the back and 3 at the front. His gear got stolen around late jan and the kites have been replaced. The footage is not 6-8 months old.

At last. I hope it is a huge improvement on the 09 bar which had so many glitches that this forum has had many posts about the problems.

No new bar will help you pull new moves. Its about durability, safety, ergonomics and intelligent design.

Saff, you can ask them directly - might get a more legit answer
I think they have been down at the SPI Round Up the past week demo-ing their stuff. Although they might not have brought out the 2010 line yet. Most of the photos I have seen have been 2009.

I tried that. how do you think I got the first bit of info.

More info coming in, in bits from kiteforum. Seems it will have a push release and still have a below the bar cleat adjustment.

Doh, sorry Athol - of course you did!

Why don't you post on nwkite.com/forum?

I am sure there are some guys there who are actually testing them at the moment. Otherwise, you can just wait in a quivering mass of anticipation like the rest of us!
