Oh yeah - what a great idea - and then you get it for free right and the guys who made the dvd and spent a bucket load of their own money and 12 months of their time don't get anything - its their job and they dont get paid.
I have an idea how about we upload Bennie to Prate Bay so he can see what it is like to work and not get paid

Bennie you are tight arse f wit

tightarse I may be, but I can tell you there is no way that a 30 min Dvd is worth $50. I have purchased a few in the past and always feel ripped off after the credits start to roll at the 25 minute mark. If they sold at a more reasonable price say $10-15 they would sell 10x as many copies and make more money.
On the pirate bay issue, people/business need to embrace technology, and evolve their business ideas to take advantage of the opportunitys it presents. Not bury there heads in the sand and cry when people take advantage of the benefits it provides to the consumer.

Accountant, 1 hour: $100
Mechanic, 1 hour: $100
Electrician, 1 hour: $100
Plumber, 1 hour $100

..no sound track, you have to visit them, and they don't often make you smile.

.. or ..

watch the best kitesurfers in the world rip up exotic locations around the globe (with a sound track) .. $50 .. bargain.

You get out of them what you're looking for... if you want to improve, watching how the best do it is a good start...

had a look at the trailer - looks like a pretty classy production to me.

there is a cool "story behind the DVD" here:

benwilsonsurf.com/

comments from the likes of Dave Kalama and Mick fanning couldnt have been easy to come by!

yeah some crew will download it for free - but karma will sort them out. flat tyres, lost wallets, snapped lines etc etc.

Maybe a $10 itunes download is worth considering for the producers? That way every one is catered for - but then you only get to watch the movie in kook mode (ie sitting at a desk watching it on a computer screen) - unless you are saavy enough to burn a low quality dvd

I reckon they will sell plenty of DVDs though - good luck to em!

There is no financial benefit for the DVD industry from pirate bay
If you invest in something you expect a return on investment?
All the benefit is one sided and goes to the consumer.
If you had to pay what it was worth to produce(not what you think it is worth), you would not download, you would simply go to the free version that would start up down the road.

You are right in that businesses will eventually need to do something with this technology but:
In order to stay in business you have to make money.
If you go to work every day, you expect to be paid.

I can just see the business model you would come up with.
Spend heaps getting it all together then put it on the net for free
How will you feed the kids tomorrow?
How could you afford kites?

Piratebay is just an example, I am talking about all torrent/download sites

In order to stay in business you have to make money.
If you go to work every day, you expect to be paid.

You have to be smart about how you do business

There is a new music site, (I forget what its called) that several big record labels are suporting that lets you access their entire back catalogues for free. The only catch is that you have to listen to some adds every 15 mins or so. That is how they will make money out of it. It is very new, I am sure you will hear about it soon enough, it is one of the ways the music industry is trying to combat the pirate industry. It is ideas like this that will work. Not hoping that people will do the right thing/correct karma or whatever. At the end of the day It's all about $ and conveinience for the punter. If you take the moral high ground on this issue you are in the extreme minority

kARMA, if thats what you wan't to believe mate, good luck to you.
A $100 media player lets you play all your media, music, video, photos through your tv. DVD's are old technology. My old player is gathering dust somewhere

If you wanna start analysing payment and finances for the movie... I hope the movie maker is paying the royalties/licensing fees due to the music producers in the soundtrack.

i know for a fact that Shannon and Ben have sorted payments and permission for songs for this dvd so no problems there.

Nice one dude, from that trailer looks like you are the stand out. Your someone who actually makes it look somewhat like surfing and makes you (kinda[;)) wanna go do it.

side note:
To tell you the truth I havent been at all impressed by various "pro" surfers turn kiters waveriding skills of late, they surf unreal but as soon as they get a kite they are just another kiter.
Just proves that just because you are pro in a sport that is very similar doesn't mean you will be a pro kiter.
Anyone can go out and hack a lip kiting, but it takes finese and practice to do it right.
You have obviously put the time in over the years and progressed and improved your style.
If thier was such thing as a "pro kitesurfer" i think you would be as close as it comes.

Poor bast@rd seabreeze moderator, hour after hour, day after day for the love of it.

BTW hasn't cumming together (and all thing SS/Cabrinha) already been pimped the hell out of in that excuse for advertorial Kiteboarder Mag. Not to mention in the WAKSA/kitelife DVD etc?? Yes I know there are other companies involved in CT but there is plenty of SS/Cab pimping already thanks very much.

Did I mention Andy/Ruben/Suzy/ahem..Ryland/Ben enough times?? Just to be safe.. Andy/Ruben/Suzy/ahem..Ryland/Ben. Now pay up!

Looks like advertising.. smells like advertising.. is BS.

What about something where you could watch it for 24 hours at a reasonable rate, like $5? You could even have a real shop where you could borrow the DVD and bring it back the next day.
