not wanting to bring any hate to the table but the FAQs is a bit ... well, kind of inappropriate. It shouldn't really say anything about how to teach yourself stuff like turning or basic kite control; for example:

How do I control the power of the kite?
It is the position of the kite that determines its power. If you are getting overpowered on the water you can edge harder to reduce you board speed. This will bring the kite round into a less powerful position.
How do I switch directions, either using the board or the kite?
To change directions you need to bring the kite from one side, gently over the top to the other side. At the same time you need to pressure the downwind side of your board at the tail, and turn it around to follow the kite. If you are using a twin tip board you simply need to transfer weight from your back leg to your front (or new back) leg as the kite starts to pull you back the other way.

I'm sure you have all seen noobits trying to teach themselves or even their drunken mates only to get pulled along the beach a bit before crashing, lines and all into other people, families go to beaches as well. They are a real threat to our reputation, even if it's not a good one to start with we don't need any more people saying; "oh, you kiteboard, iesh your gonna get yourself pulled into powerlines if you keep that **** up".

Also the price estimate...

How much does it cost to start Kiteboarding?
Equipment will cost between $500 and $2500. Lessons will cost around $100 - $300. Wind is free!

I got my mate in at the cheapest price anyone should ever go, $400 for a second hand kite more holey than than the pope, and $400 for a board and harness. Any cheaper and your looking at two lines!

People may feel ripped off if they spend 500+ on lessons as this sort of expenditure is what I WOULD HOPE ALL BEGINNERS SPEND IN ENSURING THEY ARE NOT A THREAT TO OTHERS and are less likely to kill emselves. for example kiteboardingschool.com.au/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=160&Itemid=121
AKS is one of the best schools in Perth, two half arvos with them is a minimum for most. I am also pleased to see they have taken up the same deal as choice in offering unlimited free lessons with purchase as this will mean less of their customers who spend $300 for a single lessons and think they can save big by teaching themselves from that point on will come and give us grief.

it's nearly 2 grand for a 12m flow, add $900 for a decent board and 200 for a harness and your looking at near on 3K (you have to pay RRP with AKS to get the free lessons according to the web site). if you want the best stuff 3300 is expected. some people buy two kites from the start.

You now call yourself 'Western' Australian Kitesurfing Association.
You guys finally worked out what W.A. stands for.

Very nice website. Clean, Usable and easy on the eye! You chose a really good CMS with Expression Engine.

My only recommendation is lose the animation in the internal pages as it is really distracting. Looks great on the home page.

Congrats

straight from the website .........
"The full Events Calendar will be published here shortly.
From a sensational response to a request for member input 08/09 is shaping up to be WA’s biggest events happening in kiting history.
Apart from the confirmed Kitestock; Kitejam; SliderJam & Kite-X we have the girls planning a seasonal program all of their own; speedsters about to launch a course racing series (or series of series?) and a whole bunch of other stuff under consideration as well.
Check back here soon for an update of a calendar of provisional events; dates & places."

Doesnt sound too 'pfft' to me.

And; just for the record; the waksa webteam put the whole site together at absolutely no cost to waksa whatsoever - all their own voluntary time, effort, enthusiasm and talent.

Seems some just have to bitch and complain even when there is nothing to complain about

"those who do nothing should speak even less"
but you got one out of three right - it really is truly excellent work.

Nice site, I noticed there was a thread about ideas for kitestock.

How about a decent alcohol sponsor, bulk freebies. All the other big events around Australia have one.

Hello

Thanks for the effort in putting this nice website together.

I am wondering how the website would have looked like if WAKSA had to create it during seabreeze summertime

See you on the water!

lol.
Hi WAKSA team.
It's me again.
You didn't notice the 'error' until I made mention of it, did you ? ^^^
I'm talking about the name screw-up, WAKSA's identity crisis.
I now see you've gone back to the original....
that stupid sexed-up brand name that you shamefully use as a handle for a not-for-profit State sporting association.

I'm going to agree with you for a change there 'slave. I was just getting used to 'Western', I reckon it's the go. I think it's registered under the title 'WA Kitesurfing Association' too. Bit like Grandad's axe, the old 'sociation. Same axe, three different heads, five handles, but same axe.

Your WAKSA webteam have been busy getting a brand

The funny thing is.....
WAKSA thinks it's a brand-name. ^^^
lol.
It might sell insurance (read the fine-print)...
It might sell tickets to events (conditions apply)...
but it's no corporate brand.
Brands make profits (or aspire to make a profit)...
State sporting associations are not-for-profit by legal definition.
This organisation was originally formed to represent kiters who reside in the State...
The State of 'Western' Australia.

Come on slave, WAKSA must have cut your lines, peed in your part of the ocean, or let down your already limp bladder at some stage of your life, because you are making BS accusations. and thats a fact.

FFS slave, it's not like they are forcing you to be a member, 99.999999999999% couldn't give a crap what it is called, you being the exception. What would you suggest in a perfect world? It's hardly like WAKSA are rolling around in large piles of money.

If you could do a better job I would give you the cash...

I don't think you get it, Spacemonk.
The State's name has been butchered and bastardised by WAKSA...
an organisation that claims to represent the State's kiters....
all because WAKSA is a shallow brand-whore.
Have some fken pride.

'Slave's obviously related to Charlie Court . But then feedback was invited, so I'd like to thank Slave for his constructive criticism on behalf of non-WAKSA members. (I cant thank him on behalf of WAKSA because I'm not a member.)

Well the old site was pretty good cos it waz sort of simple to navigate and an easy read. Its a hellavalotta hard work keeping web content up to date, so good luck with this one you lot. I sure hope it easier for you.

Always amazed at all the thankless b!tching on the sidelines.

Anyone that stands up to try and do something / change something / improve... gets an earful... no wonder Perth always talks about development, but any kind of development is shot down before the plans are even looked at. At some point people are going to stop trying to give their free time to help others...

For the record. I pay my fees - I think it is good value.

I appreciate the effort you guys [Waksa Team] put in and only posted to remind you that the majority of us are very happy with the massive WAKSA effort (I don;t care what you want to call WAKSA---> to me you represent a bunch of kiters making kiting in WA more fun and better represented)..

Note to self - don't post when p!ssed with unappreciative feedback.

It should be a bloody rule that before you critisize on these forums, (1) you note how you intend to improve something and (2) show some track record of YOU actually ever doing something to improve things rather than simply b!tch from your armchair.
