Hello all,

I'm new to the area and dig this site.

I moved here from Tenerife, Spain, but I'm a US citizen (don't hold that against me!)

Been a windsurfer since windsurfers went from wood booms to aluminum.

I started kiting a few months back with some friends in Key West, Florida, now I'm hooked.

Any tips, advice, or whatever is appreciated,

Fair winds and following seas....

Jim

Hi Jim

There are 2 areas in Bne to go. Either Brighton/Redcliffe area or down Wellington Point area. Brighton is excellent for learning as there's plenty of room, very few sharps in the sand and ususally a lot of kiters around to help if anything goes wrong. You might find some more exhaustive descriptions if you do a search of this forum.

Good luck

Mal

Not sure what togs, flouro harness and 70s Ray Bans you're talking about, but you sure talk like a kiter!! Not one of the cool ones, either...how many innocent children have your strings decapitated this week, butcher?????? How many young lives cut off in their prime because YOU...CAN'T...CONTROL...YOUR...KITE??????

Not as many as you would have run over with your huge 8 ft board, with the head removing 2ft long fin, doing a maniacal speed run out of control!

2 ft long fin?? Have you been having nightmares? The boogiewindsurfer is coming to get you!! Chill, brudda... a fin like that is only usable with big (like, 10m) sails in lighter winds, and you'd see it coming a mile away. A rare sight in the open ocean, because launching such a monstrosity thru a decent shorebreak can be extremely hazardous to the wallet...

Anyway, of all the people I've beheaded, not a single one has complained!

Welcome downunder Jim!

We are an IKO School based at Sandgate (northside of Brisbane, short walk from Sandgate train station from the city). Sandgate is very ideal for beginners as it has no rocks, shallow as (walk out a mile and you can still touch bottom). We do lessons, repairs, rentals, new & used gear if you need any of the services, or just come and kite with us! Come and say hi and we'll run you through rigging area/facilities and stuff. Happy kiting!
