Hi every one, me and a mate have just bought our selves some gear so we can get into kiteboarding this year. We live down at Goolwa south of Adelaide and get a pretty consistant on shore winds so with any luck we will get some good conditions to have some fun.
I come from a pretty strong wakeboarding backgroud and still do wakeboard a couple times a week, I just bought a 12m and 16m (o6) North vegas kites a Airush Switch 142 board with a Dakine Tabu Harness so hopefully this package will suit me.
I have flown kites before and had a little bit ov practise but now i have all the gear i cant wait for the winds to be right on the weekends.
Has anyone got any tips for us? Whats your opinion on weather this gear will be gd to have my first year on?

Thanks.

check out, www.kitesurfingschool.org , for tips

Hook up with your local crew and get advice on where newbies should go. Start out in light winds and make sure you have loads of downwind space.

Don't use a board leash and don't kite in offshore wind. Have fun.

Make friends with one of the locals and ask lots of questions!

Everyone is willing to help newbies out, even if it's for selfish reasons like making sure you don't get in their way.

And if you don't feel confident or think something isn't right DONT JUST TRY IT AND SEE - I've seen a few noobs come unstuck here. Just check, recheck and if in doubt ask.

Best of luck - you'll be hooked in no time!

Hi SouthSA

there is a local crew southentralkiteboarders and the local Goolwa boys, we pretty well kite Goolwa all the time we can, as well as Kent Reserve in Victor.

check out the webiste www.southcentralkiteboarders.com and feel free to hook up with us we will help you out.

Please consider clickin on RedBaron Kiteschool link on our site (lessons link on the left) now I had been surfing and windsurfing for many years but I still got lessons and as a result learnt really quickly.

Please don't learn by trial and error, please, this is a major risk for you and others on the beach, and risks us getting bans.

Goolwa in summer is a very busy spot with many swimmers near the car park area, best bet is to head up the beach a km or 2 in the 4wd and ride the open waves.

ps. Please let Guy at Red Baron give you a few lessons first it will save your gear at least if not your life.

welcome aboard

Yea Dazza we will do most ov our kiting down the beach a bit I have a 4wd and also have a boat and 4wd down the other side of the mouth were there are bigger gutters and the swell is alot cleaner and not a person in sight.
How often do you and your crew meet up down at Goolwa and Kent reserve?

Used to liv down your way . Galwa should be awsome in the right winds, I also used to kite buggy on Galwa beach. Learnt to kite surf last year up in Brisy.....LESSONS ARE CRITICAL. You need to know about rigging, safety etc. also how your safety gear works. Understand landing and launching so that you can do this safely.(Your safety and anyone else anywhere near you) Body dragging is a crucial skill you need to learn also. Then get out there and have a ball, good to have a mate to learn with too. Good luck ...you are gonna luv this sport.

Hi SouthSA,

Check out the "SAKSA sign up day" posts in the SAKSA section of this forum.

Seems to be a great opportunity to see demos of gear and meet people who are well entrenched in the sport.

Find a way to do the lessons!
The philosophy of "learning by others mistakes before you have the same mistakes inflict severe damage" shows a huge need to be educated in this sport.
Try researching the net starting at sites such as Kitemares and the like. There is a massive amount of support to having the classes.

regards
Fossil
