Hey guys I'm just new to kiting and only got to ride the tail end of this season, just wondering if everyone still rides April till October-ish and if so where abouts in south East qld does it happen.? Or do the kites go away for a while?

Thanks

This is June last year.......

I kited 7 days in a row, water temp was 22o

Sooooo no, never put my kites away at all

Plenty of winter stoke threads in the QLD section, just check the date they were posted

Watch out for the westerlies, pretty gnarly but still kiteable

Westerlies only kiteable if you know where to go though, and usually gusty because it comes from the land.
Having said that, last winter was probably better than this summer.

Have a look on google maps, where abouts are you located on the coast?
If you are nearby I'll pm you a good spot, but not keen on posting it up as you can only have 4 kites rigged up at a time on the grass, and thats with lines running out through the carpark lol.

Closest spot to there would be wellington point for a westerly, kiting on the western side of the point. Make sure before you start rigging up that you talk to a local about where to rig up. Kiting is banned in this location so you can only rig up down below the high tide line. Double check this because i am not 100% sure.
It can also be a bit rocky so if you are still learning bring some booties so you don't step on rocks or potentially stonefish.

A bit further north is bongaree, which is definitely worth the drive in westerlies.
And I myself sometimes go to moreton or straddy and kite on the western side, can be worthwhile once you are competent, and with some friends.

Edit: If you are still learning, Bongaree is tidal and I do not recommend it until you are confident riding upwind, being able to self rescue, etc. Once you are used to tide you will love kiting at river mouths, just make sure its a run out tide.
