Hi

As a newbie kite surfer (using the term in the loosest sense) and a newbie to Melbourne what can I expect from the winter season? I have read a lot about people packing up for the winter but I have just got my sweaty paws on an F.One 13M Tribal and am itching to go out there and give it some.[}:)]

Is there a reason why the winter season is to be avoided (other than the water temperature)? What should I be looking out for? Are there any good winter spots, or places to avoid?

Cheers

Gusty winter conditions with squalls etc make it way way wayyyyy more dangerous.

Get onto your weather reports and know what it's gonen be like. If it says '40kn squalls' or similar, stay at home and watch a DVD.

You'll get 'em, just don't be tempted when the weather says strong wind etc.

Check out the thread on laurie the ambo if you're still tempted. It just ain't worth it.

Have fun.

Junglist, how do you pronounce that in english?

I have just unearthed a pair of booties that may help you survive the Melbourne winter. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

Still if ever there was a kite for surviving Melbourne winters, you've got it.

This weekend is Comedy festival, for daughter's birthday.

I hope Lano and woolly( that right?) are OK for a 14YO.
then it's a delightful Sunday of shopping. I hope I survive.

35-40kt gusts on a 13.5m sounds a a lot less scary.

anyway for NW try the chop at Brighton, pt henry, Pt richards(portarlington), Rosebud and area.

NE. try Pt Richards, Indented head-St lenards.

West: Pt henry, 13th beach(be brave)

Winter southerlies: take up windsurfing at Pt Danger.

N to NW Pt Ormond is OK but gusty close in and you need a kitepig on hand to land and launch.

At any rate it's probably a best bet to just head to Pt Henry and sus out from there.
