Hey, just wanted peoples reccomendations as to a kite and board that will be suitable for a beginner, yet able to handle freestyle and eventually surf.
Local spot would be Wellington Point, Brissy, however would prob venture to brighton and Gold Coast too.
Weight: bout 65-70Kg.
Want something durable, and stable.
Have plenty of free time for a fast progression. (horray for uni!)
Possibilities:
New 9/12m Best Waroo.
Caution kites (2nd hand).
Kite with nice clean simply bar would be sweet!.
LF board? - would like something small like 130ish cm (again something that can handle newschool moves)
Wanting to kite all year round if possible, so if anyone has any suggestions to a setup, it would be greatly appreciated.
(ohh yeah i have decent board skills already - hope this applies to kiteboards too)
p.s. I have looked throughout the previous posts and talked with quite a few people, but simply wanting ppl's opinion from this forum who may ride at these spots already..

if you want a stable kite and the most durable kite on the market get a slingshot fuel. or even the diesel 05 second hand. the sx is a great little board and it comes in a 130 also slingshot. boards come down to choice so best to demo them for yourself, but as far as kites go get a slingshot or at least check them out before you buy any other brand. go to www.sskiteboarding.com

answering the topic, i would go with second hand for sure! I'm onto my third kite, all bought second hand at around half the price of brand new, yet all of them were just about brand new. One of them had never even been pumped up!!
Don't know about Queensland, but in Melbourne there are a lot of people who have too much money to spend, think it looks cool, go out buy the kit, have one lesson, get a little scared and decide to sell up. I don't think i will ever buy a brand new kite, i just look for nice buys like i've got. Plus you get more of your money back because you didn't spend much in the first place. That being said, you have to know what you're looking for, and you have to check it out and make sure you don't get dodged.
I know you want to and will probably go down the inflatable path, but don't go past the venom without thinking about it, if you want a stable kite there is nothing more stable!!! Period. With my venom i am able to depower it, and run up the beach for about 200m without even touching the bar. Mind you, this being after about a 3 hour session of pure fun.

Yeah, the 06 SX 130 is a pretty good board. Its been my first board and i have nothing but praise for it. Give it a shot..... a sling shot.. I hear a new marketing slogan in the making.........

I'm in the same boat as you Hayman except I weigh in at 88kg - will be kiting the same place as well - I'll be watching with interest.
James, how different is the Venom, from the older Peter Lyn Arc kites like the ARC 840 which sell for next to nothing second hand - heard good things about the Arc kites from quite a few people - as a beginer kite the seem to be great, could be the one to learn on.
What size ARC kite should I be looking at for the "normal" winds at Wellington point?

i'm a newb as well but can strongly recommend the Peter Lynn Venom series - great to learn with, heaps of depower, durable, & they look so much classier once they're in the air...

i got a slingshot fuel 05 as my first kite a few months ago and couldn't be happier with it. They seem to be tough and easy to pump with the one pump system. I got mine 2nd hand for $1000 and it was pretty much new (+ bar/lines never used) if that helps. I would definately recommend 2nd hand, lots of guys get new gear every year so theres always quality late model stuff around at good prices. Also i now have 3 kites all second hand and pretty new models, so keep in mind if ya hooked and wanna get out in all conditions you may find yourself doing this.. Warning you may find yourself missing some days at uni when its good!

Yeah im either going for a SS Fuel, Diesel or Caution 2005 kite.
All durable as hell. and the onepump does seem enticing for the SS kites.
ohh a bit off topic but have you used that ATL thing and do they come standard on the 2005 kites?

no i haven't used it.. but it does come with 05 fuels.. anyone else know how this works? i found this http://www.kiteworld.net/slings_all_terrain_launch.shtml but its not that helpful..
also i purchased a sx 122 board, and found its easier to learn on a larger board (using a 142 at moment) as you can carry less power which = less getting worked when ya stuff up..

Hey everyone got a second hand SS Fuel 05 11m about 4hrs ago. Its sweet, i had to pump it up when i got home, Damn it took up my whole lounge area.lol.
