All the self regulation regarding safety n public edicate does not appear to be enough for Noosa local council, even though most of the council are happy with the code of conduct 'treaty' that has been drawn up and presented to them. The question of safety now takes a back seat to the enviromental factor that relates to 'that' particular species of migrateing bird from Russia that is being 'upset' by those 'flying predator' things we call kites, even though addmission has been made that no proof is available to show this is the case.A 'mexican standoff' now exists as they will ok kiteing formally at the riv'mth if we ALL stay away from that great position on the west side of the river/mth locally called 'the fryingpan'.Please don't hesitate to give any of the Noosa Councilors a call to tell them that you would be extremely dissapointed if they chose to follow through with there plan to BAN only kiters from the area. Please show integrity and good manners if you do, as most of council have appreciated the responsible way that kiters have been acting in the whole region to date..Roo

I spoke to Bob's secretary about this when it came up just recently and she was passing on the message. I think I will email him too though.

The frying pan is the ONLY nice part of that little hole people call Noosa.

What can you tell us about the birds - name, Russian home town habits etc.

bit of info and research can often dig up interesting and useful stuff.

Kitersurfers seem to be a migratory species too - any advice/info from our euro guests?
maybe there are other places with similiar problems (birds getting kites banned ??)

Better still has anyone kited in Russia? (Preferably on the lake where the birds came from.)

In all honesty I don't think it has anything to do with the birds. I just think that the birds are the only excuse that they can come up with to justify a ban. Only thing I don't quite get though is why target the Kiters? What about the windsurfers, jetskiiers, pontoons and other family, fishing things that also go on in that area. It is really the biggest load of crud!!!!

(steps up on soap box)

It's not long now until the 3 councils become one and more than half of the representatives have lost their jobs. The next few months will see all of these people fighting for their jobs and using any contraversial topic to generate votes for themselves.

Now is the time to approach your local councillor and assure him/her of your vote if he/she supports your choice of non polluting recreation.

The guy I'm voting for is totally committed to maintaining access to my local spot for all watersport enthusiasts and likes kiting in particular because of the tourists that gather to watch and spend money while here.

Get together and find out who will fight for your rights, help them with their campaign and use your vote to protect your spot.

(staggers off soap box)

It may be of interest to note that, due to the alledged disturbance of migratory birds, kiting has been banned at one of the best flatwater kiting spots in Perth.

Don't know much about the birds, only that,we are told that the kiter's big colourful 'UFO's' cause the bird's to lift and are unable to stay settled to feed.Yes what's good for one is good for all so to ban only kiteing, and not all river user's from the pan is biased and that will be the focus of our argument. No proof or report from any long term study has been produced to support council's claim,as far as we know and from our point of view, kiter's activities DO NOT upset anyone including the birds.I personally have come within koo-wee of gull's and the like and they don't seem to even move on the approach of us(have become de-sensitised to all human activety on the river,i.e the massive development's going on all aroung the area)the council is extending the rock wall from 'doggy bch' 100m's to kerb severe erossion on the south bnk of the river, the noise of the boulder's and large machinery will be enough to scare the most hardened wildlife in the area!...Roo

Good news,I don't want to be premature with my comments, but is does appear that Noosa council will take on board the'code of conduct' resolution submission drawn up by some very dedicated kiters.
The enviromental debate relateing to the migratery birds will continue but not interfere with the proposal to allow kiters to enjoy the attributes that Noosa riv/mth offers.
If kiters show a responsible/self regulateing attitude to safety and public awareness at the river, hopefully council will 'come to the party' and not continue pushing for a complete ban.
Its all in the hands of the gods now, hope they kite up there!.Thanks for cordinateing, lobbying and writeing the proposals.Matt n Bec c/o F1,Fiona n George c/o Adventure Sports,Mike B c/o Noosa Kiteboarding and Noosa Shire Councillors for your sincere attention, also those unnamed for your efforts.
regards Mark W.

Mark is correct, the code of conduct has finally gone through to the next stage after a good old fashioned mexican stand off. Its seems we called their bluff and a bit of pressure from the councillors has paid off. As we suspected if the council wanted to ban us they have to ban everyone and that would have opened up a can of worms no councillor wants a part of. Thanks to everyone who called a councillor.

hey paulio any thought on my crazy dvd proposal?
