Looking for escape with the family. Couple of primary kids and baby along with non-kiting wife.(Although willing to learn in the right environment.) Heard plenty about Fiji among others but not a lot of recent info on Noumea. Any thoughts would be great. Cheers

In summary great flat water, can be EXPENSIVE.

Thanks for the response. Is New Caledonia expensive or more so Noumea. Would prefer waves and flat water but it just seems from photos I've seen that the kiting is on the beach of the resorts in Noumea, which would be a bit more family friendly.

Great for kiting, not much else. Very expensive & lots of homeless who can be quite pushy for money. Good trip without the family
Fiji is a better option for the family, I on south coast & kited everyday on flat water with waves out back

I went to New Cal a couple of years and saw some excellent kiting poential - it was pretty expensive - Noumea is not very different to the rest of the island. Lots of people don't speak English so it can be a challenge.
Some excellent kiting though.

I haven't been to Fiji
Been to Noumea 2 once on a 2 for 1 and once for visa reasons (works well with kiting and the Australia Consulate)
It is and isn't expensive there are some great places to go outside of noumea. Don't stay on the island resort where most people kite - it's a rip off! There was a new place being built beside the Mariot, there's a supermarket and a wine store up the hill (ahhhh the wine shop) there's a bakery across from the windsurf rental place (they have a date bread which was AWSOME) the boat trips to the island is not cheep but not expensive. It is what you make of it really.
