I know there has been a few posts re Bali, but ...

Anyone been to Lembongan or Gilies and got any thoughts about kiting there?

Same wind as Bali?

Any good/potential spots?

Going to Bali, Lembongan, Lombok and Gilies for a month in August.

Thanks

Lembongan is a treacherous spot due to the insane tidal variation creating masssive currents - if you go down you can get swept right out to sea - the surf here is insano and will rise from 2ft to 8ft plus on the tide - thats how powerful the effect is here.

Going to the Gillies you are actually transitioning from Asia to Australasia ! This occurs because the body of water between bali and lombok is so deep it actually allows the climates to change over this relatively short distance. You will go from humidity and warmth in Bali to Dryer slightly cooler temps On Lombok - which is effectively the climate on the Gillies. Even the topography looks aussie with red dirt and a more arid climate to be experienced here.Wind can be hit and miss on these islands and again - the tide will play havoc.

If you can get to the south coast of Lombok or Sumbawa you will get into some trades SE from june onwards with some slightly less treacherous tides.

If you are surfing you are gonna get some smoking waves no matter where you go in this region and you probably won't even miss your kites too much.

pain don't hurt !

cheers Buster.

Yeah, just trying to work out whether to take the kite or not.

If I take it, there won't be any wind; if I don't take it, it will be cranking every day!!

Hey Bolgo,

Lakey Peak must have improved because I heard it was pretty basic when you took your missus there (for a month was it?).

Yeah, weekend was sh1t for kiting by the time I got there on the weekend. Good surf on Saturday though.

Hopefully good waves over Easter with the rest of the hordes. Doubt there will be any wind. Not so much fun with Pat anyway. (Must find some mates!)

I'll have to borrow one of your kites when I go to Bali - you've got about 50 haven't you? (mmmm.. never thought I'd use one of the "smilies" - what am I turning into?)

See you on the water (or hopefully in the air!) if we ever get some wind.

Did you ever get to kite when you were last in Bali?
