I know it's the poorer cousin of Exmouth but wondering if anyone's kited there?

The observations on the BOM site show good sea breezes through the summer months, Google Earth shows a bit of a break at the point but I'm just chasing some first hand info.

Cheers.

How 'bout 2nd hand? A guy whose done all up that way says N of Dongora tends to be less forgiving. Access, reefs & isolation are the main issues. But the winds are good most of the year, and certainly better than Perth in winter.

try it out you will definately get wind in summer however the wind up that way in winter is mainly easterly. I have never kited onslow but lived in karratha for a long time and the weather pattern is fairly similar

me and a mate kited there for 1 day near the big jetty in august a few years back. Was murky water, heard lots of stories about being "mad" going in the water. Not ideal by any means but theres wind and water.... so kitesurfing is possible.

Soryy cant help you much more than that, we were only there a day

Yep onslow is like an oasis with murky shallow choppy water with lots of hidden rusty steel pylons and even nastier fish.On the other hand the salt ponds always look smooth and tempting. You can forget about getting swell unless in a cyclone.

I was wondering about the salt ponds...... do they get stroppy if they catch you in there?

probably but the water is as hard as concrete and there's no sand to launch the kite.

I have been kite surfing in Onslow for the last 4 years, have never seen a shark. Have a few different spots up here and can kite any direction excluding SE to S winds, the water is brown up here because of all the creek run off and have never seen a shark or any nasties (thanks to the water), a few dugongs and coupla snakes but very rare. The outer islands are alot of fun if you can get a boat that can handle the winds. Havent had too many 'good' seasons up here for last two years but this year am hoping it is the bomb
