I will tell you guys now that having the plate and screws put in was way more painfull than breaking my heal !! After the operation when the nerve block wore off it hit me big time one off the most painfull things i have been through in my life so far . So please take it easy when your in the shallows !!!
www.seabreeze.com.au/Media/View/6741642/Kitesurfing/ Yep, I've got my plates and screws cleaned and wrapped as a gift from my friend who actually put me in a sleep before the second surgery. That was a year after they put it in.
The plate is of a car key size and screws you do not want to know.
Part 2 warning is actually what comes after...For me, the bladder infection come after because couldn't piss for days and if you are a man you won't be any more after they stick half a meter catheter into your, you know what

Ha, scr.wed from the back and front[}:)]
Now basically, when I see shallow water I actually see a clinical nurse winding a catheter

P.S. As easy as I've broken my T12, it's even easier to break a neck vertebrae all thanks to shallow waters.
