to Unchained ....Mate, the only reason you can kite there AT ALL is because of a compromise between kiters and the relevant authorities ... So if you want to contiue kiting there I suggest you inform others to stay outside the markers ...
Unfortunately it's markers or total ban ...

While I appreciate the efforts made by WAKSA and CALM to accommodate the wildlife and recreational issues at Pelican Point, in my opinion it is impractical, if not outright dangerous, to have all the kiters close together in one area.
With the abundant boat traffic and deep water, kiting further out on the river remains an undesirable option for many.
While kiting may or may not temporarily affect the comfort of some of the birds in the wildlife area (many of them do not actually seem to mind bipeds doing the "walk of shame"), I estimate that kiting occurs at Pelican Point for about 3% of the year (60/365 seabreeze days, 5/24 hours). It seems likely, therefore, that kiting at Pelican Point is not harmful to the birds at Pelican Point. Kiting on one side or the other of the yellow buoys hence does not strike me as an issue that warrants attention or antagonism
Rather, the foot/cycle path trough the rigging area is a nuisance to all users. There is clearly room for improvement in this regard.

I think you will find it has nothing to do with the risk of disruption from walking the beach - it is more to do with a kite flying in the air above that area and the very real damage that the strings do to birds in flight. Never been a problem from a windsurfing point of view for over 30 years - solely due to the kites & strings.

Thanks Unchained, I stand corrected. I thought it would be from them being frightened and taking flight with the risk of getting collected by the strings.
