At Last - no wind - rest day. PHEW
How many days straight has it been
I lost count about a week ago and even my days off were by choice not lack of wind.
Its been a crakka Dec Jan - no doubt.

But I found out yesterday that maybe, like driving, you can be too tired to kite. I was really brain & body f'''ed yesterday - but hey it was 25>30 kts so what can you do
But Id been working too many hours on top of a sleepless weekend and I paid for it. Kooked out big time. Set up lines wrong Launched the kite one strut flat Took out another kite on the beach (sorry again 4 that) then finally got out only to find I was totally unco (thats even more unco than usual) on the water as well.
Damn unpleasant session all round
Gotta stay alert hey.

I remember this from last december-january as well.. Hands covered in blisters and bleeding from open wounds. Skin burnt beyond recognition, shoulders and legs all sore... But I would kill to have that now again :)

When there's no wind we complain about that, and when there's wind we complain about that... haha

Yea, was happy to see no injuries....thought it great how y'all quick released. Ja, wen Kiting tired or too "stocked" can lead to error.

I've done similar as you and have learned that if you set up wrong it is often best to start all over again.....especially when you are "under pressure" because of the embarassment of stuffing up on something that you have done perfectly 1000 times.

I heard tonight rocked! Didn't get out though because I was too tired.......5 qubes of sand today

This is coming up now to 2 weeks without kiting AND I live in Perth , I suppose thats whats happens when you a young family and work .

Oh Well, maybe in around 3 years I will be able to go out fairly regularly hopefully before kiting is banned in WA looking at all the incidents happening.

I am very envious of you guys but I would not give up the family for anything.

Cheers
Rich

Months and months over winter? Nope. A week or 2 maybe. Seriously. It does get a bit cold tho.

Winter is all about getting out there... The wind's different (and alot colder). If you're prepared to do gusty river conditions (Pt. Walter) and strong on-shore ocean sessions (anywhere along the coast) you can go quite often (once or twice a week if you're prepared to face some hard-core conditions, at it's worst once a week) and get some great action! It's all about wearing that 3mm wettie and not caring about some sprinkles and knowing how to deal with... I learnt kiting 7 years ago in those conditions so no big deal. I guess you just get spoiled and can't be ****ed if it's not bluebird and 30 degrees plus

Funny though, as those are usually the conditions we kite in back in Sweden. Cloudy with some showers, pretty cold 15-22 and about 15-25 knts dead on-shore is what we get in summer (usually) and everyone's out having a blast! I follow the surfzone forum as well (Swedish kite forum) to see what's going on back home and people are out kiting there now with icebergs on the ocean!!

Was back over xmas and went out for a wave surfing photo session. The conditions were 2 plus degrees, 25 knts of wind and sunny (for a change). Here are some shots. You guys are "lucky" to have the conditions you have...

Love the snaps Dave. I am from Ireland and we are surfing in Arctic conditions ALL year round. The water temperature is bad enough without the wind chill!

You get out after your session and need to spend ten minutes fumbling your car key into the door before blasting the hot air onto the areas that have gone numb!

Perth is great in Winter because the drop in temps and frontal conditions send all the soft cocks and droves of fair weather kiters into their annual hibernation. Then the hardy few have it all to themselves!

i agree with sprucy & Sci winter is the harden up time me & mates all go down at least once a week with numb feet feet from the cold sand and numb fingers from the wind , so we can fully enjoy the summer. with all the kiting over the last few weeks i thought i was suffering from shin splints , but it was just the constant spray from the edge of my board over the period fit in as much possible ,,,, prior to fatigue & kooking out we have got it soo good , but friday may be a beer night so i can have a day off

Kiting in WA in Winter is heaps and heaps of fun.

This might sound strange, but it is like being in the mountains in a storm. It is freezing cold, very tricky conditions, almost no one around to help you, but if you can motivate to get out it is heaps and heaps of fun.

Naw, Winter kiting bites big time................use your brains, do we really need people coming here to kite in the crap off season also?

Looks like big kite weather at the mom...actually looking forward to taking the beast out for a spin. The beast has had a good month off already and needs a run bad.

Hey Sci, that pic was Leighton right? Great cold spot. This winter I'll be there looking to get barrelled or die trying. At least when it's raining I'll be sheltered in the green room

Thursday we're touching 4m !! What a summer !

I didn't realise Perth had a winter or a kite season. Noice....

This brings back fond memories of wales.
Full 4-5mm Wettie, boots, gloves and skull cap, sometimes even vaseline on the face to keep the wind chill off, now thats winter.
