Whats Brisbane like for kitesurfing, does it get consistant summer wind like Perth's SW.

I know the surf is 100% better than Perth but what about the wind?

Cheers

Well are you talking Brisbane or the greater South East Queensland and Northern NSW? Because Brisbane itself hasn't got much in the way of surf, not if you want to ride after work or the like. There's a couple of whopping great islands in the way.

Wind is a fair bit lighter and less predictable than Perth, however it is the same Summer season and some of the blows can still be pretty bloody good.

I chose Perth to live over Brisbane because generally I find the conditions are more to my liking (for my style of riding). Each to their own though.

This is like a Pat vs. Liz topic! [}:)]

As Pat said, unless you work on the Gold Coast or Sunshine Coast, if will be close to flat-water kiting all the time.
Depending where you would live and kite in Brisbane, depends on the consistency of the wind.

I have found that on a predicted 20 knot day, Redcliffe-Brighton will have more strong wind than Wellington Point, as Wello has a lot of small (and large) islands in the way that acts as a wind shadow along the way; Redcliffe-Brighton isn't as protected.

I've heard that W.A water is much much more clear than Brisbane; but once again I have not been there.

Gold Coast is great because you can choose between so many kiting locations, as well as flat (KFC) and surf conditions depending on your kiting mood on the day.

I hope you aren't choosing to move from Perth to Brisbane for our 'kiting conditions'! lol... You might be disappointed!
The number of 18-25 knot NEly's we had last summer could nearly make me cry... (like your SWly).. Summer isn't what it used to be... It's SE-Ely all the way...

I live in Geraldton and my old folk live in Brisbane.

If Geraldton is 8 out of 10 for kitesurfing conditions.
Perth would be a 4 out of 10
and Brisney would be 1.2

Sorry Mum.

Harsh, but probably fair. You might be able to give the Sunny or the Goldy somewhere between 2 to 4, if you're saying Moreton Bay is the 1.2? Where is 10/10?

I must say though, I've found acres and acres of really flat water in Moreton bay. Unfortunately it tends to be incredibly shallow and I've faceplanted into mud more often than I can remember when my board catches.

Yeh I have kited Brisbane. Locals would be able to best descibe it. I would be too harsh.

Sunny and Goldie. Great place like Perth to get your car broken into.
One problem with Sunny and Goldie the water moves faster than the wind.

There are some islands out the front of Gero that would score 9/10.

To be 10 out of 10 it needs to have many varieties of long point break style waves and good flat water in any given wind direction. Good accomodation, Good sandy beaches and some where to spend money on skimpy bar maids, juke boxes and jugs of beer.

Yeah, Sunshine Coast bad, crowded, cars get broken into, cold water, rainy, ugly girls, did I mention the sharks - stay in Perth rather.
